What's On My Mind? My Husband Is Quitting Smoking......Uh, Oh!

By
Real Estate Agent with Karen Parsons-Fiddler, Broker 949-510-2395 BRE# 01494165

My husband started smoking in his 20s....why on earth someone would start in their 20s is beyond me. I can understand teenagers trying to look "cool" even though it will cause a lifetime of struggle and does NOT make you look cool.

This is not easy....he's tried before. Although I must say he's already gone all day and hasn't killed anyone nor sneaked a cig. I think he's finally ready to do this for himself. I'm glad he has bent over backwards to smoke until now.

Smoking outside in the pouring rain
Waking up in the middle of the night to smoke
Running to the gas station at 6am for cigs
Coughing and Wheezing
Frequent Colds and Respiratory Illnesses

I bought him candies and chewing gum. I'm being very sweet (yikes) and understanding. I might have to start drinking....just kidding.

Let's wish him luck....I'd like to have him around for a long time.

Hope he manages.  It can't be easy.  I never smoked and can never undestand how anyone could.  Glad he is going to succeed in giving this up.  I have all faith in him.

My husband used the patches, then the gum, and has been smoke free for over 10 years.  I didn't think he could do it.

I lost my dad to smoking.  He died almost 14 years ago of lung cancer.  My sons are 6 and 2... he might have been able to meet them had he quit earlier.

That might be some motivation for your husband.

Karen: Here's to hoping he stays on the wagon. Smoking is under full scale assault in this nation, as it should be. Best,

Karen - Your hubby is in for a tough job but it's so worth it.   Next month will be nine years since I've had a smoke and I'm so glad I did.  I hope your hubby sticks to it - it's so worth it.

Karen - You are a saint to be so sweet and tolerant of his habit for this long. Please give him my best regards and let him know all your AR buds are pulling for him to suceed. Also, for what it's worth, as an anesthesiologist I can personal vouch for the fact that smoking is the worst possible thing you can do to yourself short of drunk driving. Even a little weight gain is peferrable, so keep that Ben and Jerry's coming as needed. :-)

Cigarettes are a hard drug.  Overcoming them is a supreme accomplishment.  I hope he succceeds...for both your sakes.
