Gail, I couldn't get past the barbecue ribs at the Ash Creek grill. A definite weakness for me.

Gqil that is a lot of places to chose from, and a hard choice of which one to pick.

Gail,

Your post on the restaurants caught my eye. I remember visiting Black Rock at a kid for family outtings at the beach when the food was hot dogs and hamburgers.

Ed - Yes, that is is their specialty.

George - I don't know if you've ever watched Hell's Kitchen, but Gordon Ramsey just did a makeover at Cafe Tavolini two weeks ago.

Emily - Where did you grow up?

This is great Gail!  I think that this type of post is so important to those used to living in the city.   It shows the character of the area and that it isn't the back woods on the Apalachian trail.  So many moving up to Westchester think anything north of the northern tip of Manhattan is either Siberia where dog sleds are requried during the winter to get from place to place -or that its some sort of back water...where you have cars without wheels up on blocks and houses that are on wheels.  Everyone carries a shot gun too!

Ruthmarie - Manhattan is great, but the influence of high quality dining has an impact on restaurants in Westchester County and Fairfield County, raising their quality.  A number of Manhattan residents also have homes in Connecticut.  Black Rock is unique in that it is an urban environment along the shoreline with waterfront parks and a beautiful natural tidal estuary.  Best of both worlds.

Hi Gail - Absolutely true... I've done a couple of reviews - and a lot of people from the city don't understand that there are plenty of city transplants in the form of fine dining. I have friends who call Westchester "upstate NY" - they have been in Manhattan for so long- the rest of the world is backwoods!
