The seller has agreed to pay us $1000 in lieu of repairs ?
Since the seller has agreed to pay $1000.00 towards our closing costs instead of fixing anything on the inspection report, how will this help us and should we say okay?
It is very common for a seller to offer money towards closing costs instead of actually doing the repairs, especially if the seller has already moved from the home. This will help you by allowing you to bring less money to closing! Of course you will have to do the repairs to the home yourself. If you think you can do the repairs yourself or hire someone for minimal charge then it is okay to accept this negotiation.
A good way to accomplish the repairs yourself is to set a weekend day aside and go over the inspection report. Take time to make a list of the repairs that you can do and make a list for the hardware store. If you complete these repairs before you get all settled into your new home you will not run the risk of never getting to them.
