Snow In Alabama

For those of you who think that it doesn't snow in Alabama...think again.  Before I moved here my thoughts of Alabama were; it's hot and there are a lot of cotton fields.  Well yes there are a lot of cotton fields and it does get hot here.  This last summer saw many consecutive days in the nineties, but the average annual temperature is 64 F.  Alabama can actually have a wide variance in climate with the northern area occasionally receiving snowfall and the gulf is subject to hurricanes.  Alabama's annual rainfall is 56 inches.

Okay this was not meant to be Alabama's weather almanac, just wanted show everyone that it does snow here.  Depending on what part of Huntsville or Madison Alabama you were in...the snowfall averaged around 8".  After I shoveled my drive...probably the only clean drive (and the only snow shovel) in the entire subdivision...I'm sure all my southern neighbors were thinking I was nuts as the snow would probably melt in a couple of days, but I can't help it...too many years living in the north...kind of like Pavlov's dog's...it snows...I shovel.  Anyway, below are just a few shots of the neighborhood before it got dark.

Nick, I am sure you enjoyed watching the snow fall.  My sisters in Charlotte NC got about 6" and they didn't have to work today as their offices were closed.

Nick, beautiful photos.  I really wouldn't have associated snow with Alabama, but what surprizes me is that you took your snow shovel with you!

Nick, I wouldn't have questioned snow in Alabama, not sure why? I know its not often, but we have a house in Sicily and are told it sometimes snows there too.

Nick, You got a lot more than we did, and we got plenty. We're the only house with a snow shovel, but the snow was so light my husband just swept it off the deck and drive!

Thanks everyone for your comments.  Today is supposed to be the last of the below freezing days for a while, forecasting 40's and 50's this next week with rain...all that snow will be gone soon.

Interestingly you guys have gotten more snow so far than we have had here in MD.  I'm sure you are looking forward to more typical weather.
