Cleaning Out My Email & Active Rain....

Cleaning out my email...

I have a Gmail account and you really don't have to clean it out but I do, all of those junk emails just sitting there drives me nuts!! (quit laughing it is one of those things ~grin~) So two nights ago I went through all 1500 emails that were in my box and deleted, filed or marked for later use. So now that it is done, AGAIN, I am NOT going to let it get that way again....

So this morning when I was emptying out my box and I was scrolling through who the emails came from, I would think about the person, the conversation and it would make me smile. Then it hit me how many messages were from my AR friends!

Since yesterday I received 5 emails from different people here in the Rain. All about different things, one needed a little help, another we were having a little laugh, another just a catching up email....you get the picture.

My point is, I would have never thought when I began Active Rain that it would produce “friends” for me....Some that I know right now that I could go plop on their couch and feel VERY “at home”. I talk to people here about personal things, business things and everything in between! Some are now my Facebook friends, linked In associates... So if you think that Active Rain will not get you any referrals, think again, it certainly will! But if you really participate in the community you will come away with so much more...friends!

And this all began when I was trashing junk from my email...who says you cant find a blog ANYWHERE!

Melissa, this is so interesting that you wrote this blog. I was telling my family, over dinner last night, about one of my friend in Florida and another in Washington... anyway I was referring to my "AR" friends. I could not agree more. When you are involve, you do make great friends/ referrals/ contacts.

It is all good and I learning quite a few things every day!

Melissa, I so need to go through my emails...I do not know why I keep putting it off...maybe this will help get me motivated! As to the friends...it is amazing the how the friendships just seem to come!

I just remembered the other night I have an AOL account (yeah, I would cancel it if I could remember which credit card it is on...LOL...yeah, just try cancelling AOL) and when I logged in, there were over 3,000 emails. I cannot remember how to delete "en masse" and my fingers got tired after the first few hundred. Gotta figure out a better way! LOL

But, I digress...you are so right about the "friends from AR" thing - I find myself saying things like "I have this friend who is an agent in Pennsylvania...Ohio...Florida" without finding anything odd about the fact most of them I have never spoken with (my bad!) and never met!

I agree. AR does garner leads. I got my first one this morning. I started AR early October. A former client sent an email to me today through AR to ask about a possible refinance. I forwarded to email to the rest of my family since we all work together to let them know what had happened. Now I won't feel so weird about starting just about every conversation with "One of my Active Rain friends"....

Melissa - I started decluttering my email box recently too - my goal was to get the number under 2000. Out of control. It's strange about these friendships you mention here in The Rain - sometimes I find myself thinking that I need to talk to more REAL people, but then I realize these are real people, even though I've never seen them or heard their voices.

I think we all manage to keep our emails and get a point we just have to stop to delete them. I have more than you had, so I guess it's time to hit the delete button. Too ashamed to tell you how many I have, but not after today, LOL
