Noise Insulation Program

A Noise Insulation Program (NIP) initiated to reduce the decibel levels and greatly improve the quality of life in properties that are in proximity of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.  This project is being undertaken to make noise sensitive properties (i.e. homes, churches, etc.) less susceptible to jet engine noise from departing and arriving flights.  By providing extensive acoustical treatments to eligible properties at no cost to property owners, the NIP's objective is to reduce by a minimum five decibel levels the exterior noise coming into the interior living space of buildings.

 To be eligible, properties must meet two criteria: (1) they must be located within the currently FAA-approved noise contours; and (2) they have not been treated in a previous NIP. The currently approved contours are those contained in the 2007 Noise Exposure Map (NEM). This NEM was developed using the most recent operations data to include aircraft flight paths, aircraft types, number of aircraft operations, times of operations, and runway assignments. Properties contained within the NEM boundaries are located within the cities of Atlanta, College Park, East Point, Forest Park, Hapeville, and Fulton and Clayton counties, and they encompass a wide variety of property types including single family, multi-family, schools, daycare, community centers, healthcare/retirement, churches, and fire stations.

The NIP Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport modifications will be property-specific.  Modifications could include some of the following treatments: window replacements, prime entry door replacements, sliding glass door replacements, roof vent baffling, addition of cellulose insulation, addition of exhaust ventilations fans, air conditioning modifications, gas appliance venting modifications, electrical modifications, ceiling modifications.  You can go to the following website for additional information regarding this program: http://www.atlanta-airport.com/Airport/NIP/
