Tampa Neighborhoods Prepare for Gasparilla

By
Real Estate Agent with McBride Kelly & Associates

This weekend a spotlight shines on Tampa.  Tampa, a port city that is rumored to have been safe harbor for many real pirates, celebrates a mythical buccaneer named Jose Gaspar in a month-long celebration that begins with 2 parades - one for children and, this weekend (January 29th, 2011) one for the young at heart.

Tampa neighborhoods along Bayshore Blvd. are staking out their homesteads against a crush of pirates and wenches that will descend upon the area in numbers reaching the hundreds of thousands.  Tampa's beautiful bays and channels will see a late morning "invasion" of hundreds of boats led by the area's resident pirate ship named for Jose Gaspar.  The mayor will put up a fight (which is usually quickly lost) and turn the city over to the marauders for the balance of the day, which the pirates spend parading, bead tossing, reveling, mischief-making and having FUN!

Tampa's most affluent neighborhoods will be the host to parties that rival New Orleans' Mardi Gras. It truly is a feast for the eyes and ears that culminates in a fireworks display in the middle of Tampa Bay (yes off a float in the Bay itself!)  Evening events include music and mayhem into the early morning hours.

This event is responsible for hundreds of people desiring to pick up and move to the many great south Tampa neighborhoods that become "unofficial hosts" of the party.  While Bayshore, SoHo, and Hyde Park neighborhoods see the most action, Virginia Park, Palma Ceia, Bayshore Beautiful, Davis Islands and Harbour Island all see an impact from the event.

McBride Kelly & Associates and Realtor Bob Pfeiffer can help make these neighborhoods your home.  Come down to see the pirates (once a year) and stay here yearround to enjoy the great independent restaurants & shops, and ease of access to museums, theaters, performing arts, parks, and sporting events.
