How to Write Headlines that Attract Attention

The ThinkerWhile we all struggle to write something that someone wants to read, we have to realize that the most important line is the Title.  If you can't write a compeling title than you won't get anyone to read your story. Ironic to think that all the hard work you may put into composing is almost worthless without a great title.

I've played around with this a lot and tried various approaches to writing a title.

1.  I've researched keywords and tried to work them in the title.  This is really a good idea, because we all know how valuable keywords are, so using them in the title is perfect. Maybe...

2.  I've tried to capture a Hot Topic.  For example - San Diego Prices are Hotter than the weather.

or Obama wants you to use Stimulus money to Buy a San Diego House.  Well, hopefully you get the idea and are  a lot more clever.

Either way, it's still aguessing game and that's just not fair.

End the battle and try using this new tool - Headline Analyzer

With this Free program you simply type in your title, submit for analysis and in seconds you have an analysis of your title with a clear explanation of it's appeal.  The value and appeal of the Headline is evaluated by using three criteria, intellectual, empathetic and spiritual.  On my first try I submitted a headline that I thought was really hot and I only got a 33.3%, after two tries I increased the percent to 50%.  It's kinda fun.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to leave a comment.  I'm still learning the ropes here at AR and haven't learned how to respond to each comment.  Please pardon

Janet:  What a great post, with some very good ideas.  The Headline Tool could be helpful, but honestly, I think the more posts you read, and the more you become aware of some of the great headlines or titles some of the posts have that get mega comments... the better your ideas on titles will become.

Take care... have a great week... and hope you had a Great Valentines Day.

Janet:  I hope you don't feel I am intruding here... but just to give you some ideas in response to your comment in #7... as far as answering each comment:

Responding to each and every comment would be a great way to build up the number of Active Rainers who DO comment on your posts.  The more comments you receive on each post, the more points you get FOR that post.  AND... the comments you make on your posts... when you are answering or responding to the comments of your commentors... DO count in increasing the points each of your posts earn.

And, in case you are not sure... you may comment to each person who makes a comment... right here in the comment box.  I would do one response per comment box, rather than, like in this post, try and respond to all seven people who "took the time" to comment... at once.  If you are unsure how or what to do, I invite you to take a peek at one of my posts.

And again, the way I look at it... if people can take the time to comment on MY posts, I can at least "try" and respond to each and every one of those comments... if at all possible.

Points are nice, and writing posts are nice, but making meaningful relationships with your fellow and sister Rainers is a great way to really get to know people... and also a great way to eventually get (and give) referrals from those same folks.  In my opinion, it's all about relationships.
