As I’m more of an “action and few words” man rather than one who will sit down and write reams about any specific subject, I had to really brainstorm to come up with ideas for my topic on social media sites. I don’t have time to spend hours and hours on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter and I wonder if tweeting and blogging will really produce any worthwhile business anytime soon!

How many of my 'Followers' on Twitter are ever going to use me as their Realtor? So far, not one has! Mind you, I don’t have a huge following, currently maybe 600. So, where is the new business, or is it all simply a huge waste of time? Am I getting lost amongst millions of fellow Followers and Following? It’s not as though I am being made famous, is it!

Keeping pace with all the current social media is demanding and not that easy, and consequently many businesses use Social Marketing companies to deal with all that stuff. I once read that social media marketing works best for remarkable products that are of great interest to heavy social media users (e.g. Facebook, mobile phones etc.) - My question ... is Real Estate a remarkable or unusual popular product?
As far as I’m concerned I think that considering the endless hours one has to spend on Twitter, Facebook or Blogs, only a small minority will make a lot of money from it. Is it worth it, or am I being jaded? Perhaps time will tell...

4 Comments on Social Media - Is it Really That HOT?
You ask serious questions, here. I think that the way to use it for a viable real estate "tool" hasn't really been done, yet.
Hello Li - Thanks for your comment. I agree with you! Just wondering how long it might take to have an impact on our business.
Hi David,
Im new to all this social media stuff as well. Im told that it takes awhile to see tangible results. At least I pop up on search engines, with the right search words. Ive spoken with several agents in my new company who tell me they get business from strangers as well as old contacts as a direct result of internet efforts.
Guess I look at it as one more tool to use with all the others you already have.
Roy
Hi Roy - I think that popping up on search engines is far more important, at least right now.It remains to be seen how much the other social media sites will eventually affect our business.
Cheers!
David
