I have a peeve. I hate this phrase. "Google is your friend."
Yes, I know that Google is wonderful, and I use it a lot. But sometimes it takes a long time on Google to find the information you need. You have to wade through all the commercial sites which are at the top of the list.
If I ask a question to a group of email friends or on a blog, I HATE for some one to come back with "Google is your friend." You don't have to preface your helpful comment with that statement; just send me your helpful link or helpful information. I want your recommendation, not your declaration of love for Google. We all like Google.
For instance, once I wanted to convert old 8mm film reels to DVD's and wanted a recommendation for a place to take or send them. I didn't want to send them off to just any address I found on the web. How did I know that this was a reputable place who would return my precious film on a DVD to me? I put the question out on to a group, and I got this comment about Google, but no recommendation for a reputable place to send the film.
Right now I am looking for the true history of Mattie Ross, the character in the movie, "True Grit." I have heard that she is an ancestor of mine. But on Google I am going through pages and pages of references to the movie. Not sure how to search to find historical facts of Mattie.
If you can find it, would love for you to send to me at Sarah@HouseInNashville.com. (And I guess it would be OK to tell me that Google is YOUR friend.) :)
