This project is proposed by Foresignt Wind Energy, LLC has applied for a 50-year easement over Arizona State Land northwest of Seligman. The purpose of feasibility studies and potential development and construction of a wind energy generating facility (referred to at the Boquillas Project).

More specifically, the applicant plans to utilize the State land parcels for a right-of-way access easement, a transmission line (tie line) easement, and a wind farm easement. The wind turbines are proposed to be located along the mesa at the top of the Vermillion (Aubrey) Cliffs.

Aubrey Cliffs near Seligman, AZ

Here is a map showing the location of the proposed wind farm.

Preliminary Site Plan, Big Boquillas Project

Each of the small squares is a one square mile section, so this map covers about 28 miles across. The red line is Interstate 40 and the diagonal line running off the upper left side of the map is Historic Highway 66 leading westward from the town of Seligman.

Don't expect this project to have a major impact on the town of Seligman. I understand that the components of the wind generators are imported from plants outside the USA. The contractors come from out of state, and very little local labor will be employed as work is specialized. Even the maintenance is expected to be provided by the same contractors that come in to build the windfarm.

The BIG winners in this project will be the Navajo Indians, as they will own a majority interest in the project and will be able to sell the electricity produced by this wind farm. Read their Newspaper article and their Press Release.

Thanks for the FYI on the Big Bo Project. It is terrible that state/fed monies will not be spent right here in AZ......those dollars will filter down to contractors/labor's out-of-state families who will spend it on their needs, and be taxed by their states for the income.....all that money lost.....that could help to boost the AZ economy.....

I agree with Teri, if it's to be built in Arizona, it should also benefit the state in terms of employment. Saying the equpment and people are specialized therefore we do that somewhere else is BS. Windfarms are nothing new, and the technology has been around for a long time. I'm in my forties and grew up in California near an area with a large windfarms. The people and equipment came out of California for the most part, and was maintained with local labor. it's been there as long as I can remember. We can build and maintain projects like these from Arizona. If the natives have any pull I hope they get involved and make a stand for Arizona labor, Arizona engineering, etc. It would benefit them in terms of employment and make the state economy stronger. This is a big business plan that benefits big business and not local economy.

There is now another windfarm in the works here in Yavapai County. It is to be built in the Yavapai Ranch area south of Seligman.

I believe it will be a major conflict with the Yavapai Ranch Land Exchange. This exchange was to trade lands checkerboarded with the Prescott National Forest and the Yavapai Ranch. The land exchange is now in limbo due to disputes over how the appraisals will be done and how they will be paid.

I'm totally against building anything on the Aubrey Cliffs as I love the area and have been hiking the area for years.

I'm all for progress but not at the expense of some of our last frontiers of the area.....I know money rules and you probably have a chance to collect millions from the current administration but pleas do it some where else...

I know my opinion is of no matter to you folks and I'm shocked the Navaho go for this where they won't even let an atv run around on the property. It just shows you how loudly money talks.

I have never been to this beautiful location-do not ruin it with industrial wind turbines-once they are there it will never be the same-the money promised will not materialize-or will be considerably less than promised-.  Do not believe "windbaggers"-they are the same as the "carpetbaggers" of the 1860's-only a different name now for a different time-still pretty much the same!-connie
