When was the last time you saw a parade of low riders (cars?) Been awhile?
The most likely place in New Mexico for such a parade, formal or informal, is Espanola, New Mexico. The folks here say it is the low rider capital of the world. Check here! This city with a population of approximately 10,000 is close to a number of other activities, mostly outdoors. These include hiking, biking, rafting, and skiing. Espanola's central northern New Mexico location permits day trips to many surrounding cities and small communities. Santa Fe, Taos, Los Alamos, Farmington are larger cities close by. Within a short drive are quaint smaller towns with plenty of history are Chimayo with its santuario and famous rug weavers, Truchas with its mountain-top views and artists' shops, Embudo a historic town, and Ojo Caliente where one soaks in mineral springs and has luxurious spa treatments, to name just a few. And, this is Georgia O'keeffe territory. Just about 20 miles north of Espanola, in Abiquiu, is where her winter residence, was and beyond that Ghost Ranch where she spent summers. All around are the views of the earth that she so delightfully represented in her paintings.
Like most cities the size of Espanola, residents have places to find most all their needs and not just a few special extras. There are the typical array of box stores, repair shops, car dealers, manufactured home dealers, and grocers. There are also stores that reflect the locale and many cultures, i.e. Mexican food stores, farm and ranch stores, shops representing local vineyards, a casino sponsored by a local tribe, and a weaver's cooperative. The earth in this part of the world is both rugged and extraordinarily beautiful. The skies are somehow bluer.
