Cary and Raleigh, NC Real Estate: "Five, Four, and a Door." Traditional colonial homes Rule!

I just loved the saying the first time I heard it.  "It's just a regular old 'Five, Four, and a Door.'"

I hesitated, and then realized we were talking about the ubiquitous and time-tested traditional center-hall colonial home.  Most of these photos are from Cary, North Carolina, with a couple from Raleigh, NC.

Cary, NC: Dandy colonial in Summerwinds

Five windows on the second level, with a center door flanked by two windows on either side.  Pretty well sums it up.  And we have a LOT of them in Wake County, NC.

Cary, NC: Another colonial in Summerwinds

I think this gives testimony to the 5/4 and a door, center hall colonial's livability and multi-generational appeal.

Cary, NC, Homestead: A fine example of 5, 4, and a door.

Don't they look great on those wooded lots with mature hardwood trees?  A real estate agent's dream to be able to make a living visiting fine homes like these!

Dick,

Once you get the "5, 4, and a door," it gives you a pretty good clue, doesn't it?

Thanks for stopping in.

Mike, Being born and raised in Boston, Colonials have always had a place in my heart. As a kid, I especially loved them at the Holidays with their candles in the windows, and a spotlight shining on the front door graced with a wreath or garland..and of course a blanket of snow on the ground!

Mike,

5, 4, and a door - never heard that before.  You have some great examples of colonial style homes here.  I like Craftsman and Victorian styled homes myself.

Ginger,

Thanks for coming by.  These are very gracious homes, and the Christmas decorations seem so appropriate.

Rita,

I heard the "5, 4, and a door" about 5 years ago, from a couple of different people.  It is definitive, isn't it?  Thanks for reading and checking in...
