When is it Appropriate to Call Clients After Midnight? When the Northern Lights are OUT in Wasilla Alaska!

Although I was born in Alaska, I always get excited to see natures paintbrush, the Northern Lights. Larry is more on the Cheechako side only being in state for only 20 years and he also runs outside when we see them. Last night was no exception!

While taking the poodle (Tana) out one last time, I looked up and saw the amazing and vivid lime green in the sky and immediately yelled for Larry. Then we started dialing the phone. Clients, friends, family, NO ONE is safe from that 1AM through 4AM call.

When is it Appropriate to Call Clients After Midnight? When the Northern Lights are OUT in Wasilla Alaska!

We woke up everyone from clients including this small sampling-

A wonderful family that just moved up from the lower 48, staying in Billeting at Elmendorf / Ft Richardson until their new home in Palmer closes. That was a fun call-imagine Larry calling saying "Don't fire us over this, but the Northern Lights are out and we thought your family would want to see them." You bet!

A dynamic couple that recently moved out from Anchorage. She had only been in Alaska about a year and has not seen the Northern Lights yet.

A seemingly reserved gentleman (only until you get to know him and realize you have the same wicked sense of humor) that is also moving to Wasilla from Eagle River.

My cousins that recently moved up to Alaska from LaGrange Indiana. They drove up into the mountains to see the Northern Lights shine and dance!

We also have some fantastic friends that we had on the Northern Lights phone tree tradition when they moved to Wasilla from Kansas. THEY texted us this time!

My parents started this phone tree tradition when I was little alerting out friends to 'go outside' and the tradition has not stopped. The simple rules were that if they do not answer, it is OK. They probably will answer your 3AM call next time because now they know what they are missing. Don't apologize, the Northern Lights are beautiful and once they see them you will understand. It does not matter how old you get or what time of the morning it is, you BETTER call us when you see them!

It does not all have to be about helping people buy and sell property. For us, we very much enjoy sharing our Alaska with our clients, friends and family. This is one example of something silly we do to share our love of our area. If we missed you and you would like to be on our Northern Lights phone tree, just drop us a line and let us know!

Paul, I would take Northern Lights over tornado's anytime! We also do not have big spiders, no snakes, crocodiles or (darn this one) Olive Garden. Like we have told everyone else, c'mon up! You have your own "in-house" tour guides. :)

Melissa, what an awful parent you had to have been, taking time to spend with your children and 'play' with them. Horrible!

Be proud because those memories last forever and I know I have not forgotten all the things my folks made us do did for us. Way to go!

Tammie, what a sweet thought-thank you! You must be (like Melissa above) a rotten parent for dragging your children out to experience life and adventure. HA! I wish more parents would realize the value of playing with their kiddos and experiencing some very cool things for themselves. Dreaded TV and video games, does anyone play anymore? Also like Melissa above, way to go! We need more parents like you guys. :)

Vickie, they are so worth the lack of sleep. We were so tired when we finally went to let Tana out for the last time of the evening but as soon as I saw the green, I was UP.

We took pictures from our deck and then bundled up, packed up a confused Tana, and went for a drive to get better pictures. Definitely worth a late night/early morning call in our views.

Chris, we noticed it about 1AM and they were still dancing after 3:30AM. They run all over the sky, flow like someone shook a sign rider (had to put some real estate back in here somewhere) or a very fast inchworm and flare. We were out there for a while and still watching them through our bedroom window as we fell asleep. How cool is that?

Evelyn, no Skittles rainbows here. :)

They are usually a vibrant lime green with the very occasional reds. We do get some light greens and nearly whites but no rainbows. The red ones are almost ominous when you see them. Imagine the sky above you turning red and changing, shifting and moving above you. I have only seen this a few times in my 40 years with the last time being about 4 years ago.

Whenever they are out, if we know, we are out too (and on the phone)!

Thank you Christine, they are definitely worth a little less sleep. The calls are pretty fun though from either side of the line. One of the families we called was so excited to get the call as they had just arrived in Alaska this week. They saw their first moose the day before and then to be able to see the Northern Lights also in one week was icing on their cake.

Thank you for taking a look Joshua, I would take the Northern Lights at night and a car show during the day. That would be perfect!

I've always wondered what the "Northern Lights" was all about, and now I know. To see that in person must be surreal! If I'm ever in Alaska, I'll make sure I add myself to your phone tree.

I’d love to see the northern lights some day, but I think it’s probably too cold that far north for little ol’ me. JJJJ

So, so cool.  Great pictures. When we were kids Dad got each of us in middle of night to see the northern lights which are rare in PA.  I am still waiting to see them again.

Congrats on Featured Post.  If I lived in Alaska, I would be delighted to be on your phone list.

Russell, we have lots of extra gear for you to stay warm with. We keep extra for visiting warm blooded relatives that think they will turn into icicles like the rest of us.

Mary, you are welcome to come up too! The only issue is that the sky has to be clear and the temps have to be cold. for the best shows. I am glad your dad shared the experience with you. Those are some of my best memories as a kid. Now we take pleasure at who calls who first...we still have a competitive streak between us all (just like kids-I called first, nuh uh, I did). It is really pretty cute since I am the youngest (at the age of 40) of 5 kids and my folks are in their -just kidding, mum would not hear of her age being 'on google.' Thank you for the congratulations, it is just a fun thing that we do.
