Spring Renewal- Making my grass greener.

Prior to the first day of Spring I am physically aware that the season is about to change. This year it has come in the form of a wicked cough as the pollen spores start floating in the air to irritate my throat. No matter how many times I try to clear it, there just always seems to be something there. But allergies aside and with warm weather in the near future, it is time for a Spring Renewal. It is time for long evenings, baseball and cook-outs.

Early in my Real Estate career I became aware of Brian Buffini and his methodology of doing business. The first "Turning Point Retreat" I attended I was fortunate enough to listen to the wise words of Joe Niego. He eloquently compared a thriving data base to that of a beautiful lawn. How a lawn needs to be cultivated, seeded, watered, weeded and cut regularly to be lush and green, the same way a data base needs to be managed on a continual basis. A lawn will become ugly and overgrown with useless weeds if it is ignored. It will have no value.
Spring is when we pay attention to our grass again. In the same manor I am giving my data base a "Spring Renewal". Time to weed out the dead grass (contacts that have not sent any referrals), fertilize the remainder (categorize the current contacts that have sent referrals or done business with me), plant new seeds (add new people to my data base) and water adequately (TOUCH my data base consistently in some form)

I am sure to guarantee myself a very attractive lawn if I follow through with these steps.

Here are some beautiful perennials in full bloom from last year in and around Catonsville that are now starting to come awake again.

Hi Ellie, I'm doing the same thing. Been at it all day. I can't believe how I neglected some seeds. I will make sure to never let that happen again!

Last year was my first Turning Point retreat and I am now an official Buffini fan.   This is a very nice analogy of spring cleaning for our business.  Happy Spring!

Ellie - Brian gives excellent advice.  I think I first attended his seminar when he was still doing so with Joe Stump (in 95 or so). To this day I follow this advice.  You data base is critical stuff!!  Way to spring clean it up!

Ellie, Brian is offering a free seminar here, but I am not able to go. I have to watch as other seeds planted in my family arrive, as in a grandbaby. I don't know exactly when our baby will arrive, but I don't want to be an hour away. So.... personal things will have to inspire me!

Hi Ellie, that's a great analogy. Real estate is a lot like taking care of a lawn, if we treat it well, it will thrive, if we take it for granted it will die with the first drought.

Hi Ellie, I sure hope you are feeling better. Brian Buffini is a personal friend and we started real estate together desks side by side. When he first started out speaking ( love the accent) he used to talk about us and what we did in the office. People have mentioned that he brought up my name in every seminar back then. ( I never actually heard it but he is so great I can only imagine there was a good lesson in it, hehehe) Anyway, you have a good plan and you make a great anaolgy of the data base and taking care of a lawn. When you see Brian next, tell you know me from blogging on ActiveRain. He may tell you a story about our days back when.

Ellie, I have been working on my grass at home for a couple of months - pulling out all the crab grass and weeds, edging, mowing and fertilizing and watering. And I have been doing the same thing with my customer database.  Without constant care, we'd have nothing.  Great post!
