Many of Washington's most popular neighborhoods are in Upper Northwest DC, west of Rock Creek Park. And while you could spend a lot of money on a home in this area, it's still possible to find something relatively affordable. Here are the five that came up today:
1. 5504 Sherrier Pl NW: for just $599,000, you can have this mid-century rambler, with two bedrooms, one full bath, and a funky old kitchen. It's in a neighborhood with much more expensive homes, so you could do some work on it without worrying about over-improving. It's convenient to the C&O Canal and the fun stuff on MacArthur Boulevard. Listed by Long & Foster.
2. 3719 Jenifer St NW: Listed at $625,000, this semi-detached brick home has lots of charm and character, and it appears to be in move-in condition. Just off Connecticut Avenue, it's an easy walk to Politics and Prose (my favorite bookstore), several restaurants, and a great nail salon. Listed by Long & Foster.
3. 4541 44th St NW:: At $625,000, this semi-detached home is located in popular American University Park, a few blocks from the Tenleytown Metro, Whole Foods, Best Buy, and the new public library. While it has had some work done on it to prepare it for the market, the property is being sold in "as is" condition to settle an estate and is listed by RE/MAX Allegiance.
4. 4319 Embassy Park Dr NW: Listed at $699,000, this 2-bedroom, 3 1/2 bath townhouse is in a community just south of American University in Wesley Heights. There is a nice lower level and a small rear garden. It is very close to Chef Geoff's, so it's likely the new buyer may never want to cook. And there is a pool - and tennis courts. Washington Fine Properties is the listing broker.
5. 4395 Embassy Park Dr NW: This is another Embassy Park home that is for sale for $$715,000. This listing broker is Clark Select Properties, and sorry, but no virtual tour is available for this one, at least not just yet.
