Cell Phone Numbers Go Public This Month!  You Can Stop Pesky Sales Calls....for which YOU will be charged!

Ring, Ring, Ring.....

I have grown to dread the Monday Morning rash of telemarketing callers!  Monday mornings are busy for me and I spend precious time every week answering these calls.  I understand that they come in on my business phone and the office phone...BUT HEY, DON'T CALL MY CELL!!!

I freely provide my cell number to clients, other agents, friends & family....but....seriously, no           telemarketers, please!

I don't know about you....but I do not want any more telemarketing calls than I already get!  I am making the call right now for my cell number to be put on the Do Not Call List!

Follow These Instructions to Delete Your Cell Number!

REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month. REMINDER.....all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS.

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:    888-382-1222.

It is the National DO NOT CALL list It will only take a minute of your time.. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON .. It takes about 20 seconds.    https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

Anita - love the ringing phone - with client calls, not telemarketers.

Kim - Exactly!  Client call, friends, family - no sales calls.

Peggy - I registered mine too!

Debbie - good deal! Getting it to AR assures it will get everywhere!

Barbara - Good.  We are all too busy to have to have these calls.

That's a great info, Barbara. Though what I have found is - more people know my business cell#, better it is. (Good thing is, I can direct to whereve I want it to.)

And thanks for DNC registry info. (I am not sure how it's going to work, because my landline is registered with DNC and I still receive calls from some call centers..)

Urban Legend I'm afraid:  " This rumor has been circulating continually since September 2004. While it does contain a small grain of truth, it's mostly false and misleading.

Yes, you can add your cell phone number(s) to the National Do Not Call Registry.

But no, you won't suddenly be at the mercy of 10,000 telemarketers if you don't.

Let me explain.

It's true that several years back some of the major wireless phone providers announced a plan to establish a 411 directory of customers' cell phone numbers. It wasn't true, however, that the plan involved publishing the directory for any and all to read, including telemarketers. The numbers were to be made available only via telephone, only to users who dialed directory assistance and paid a fee, and only with individual customers' consent.

In any case, the point has been moot since 2006, when the whole cell phone directory plan was shelved. No such plan is currently under consideration.

The Do Not Call Registry

The Federal Trade Commission does allow mobile phone users to add their numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry (the same one already in force for home phones), either online or by calling 1-888-382-1222. Doing so probably isn't necessary, mind you - per FCC regulations, telemarketers are already prohibited from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers - but millions have already signed up, and so can you.

Contrary to what most variants of the email rumor claim, there is no 31-day, 16-day, or 8-day deadline for adding cell phone numbers to the Do Not Call list - indeed, there is no deadline whatsoever.""

Melanie, Gita, Praful David, Russel, Susan, ....Good Morning!  I am a little overwhelmed as I read the response this morning

To All..thanks for the comments!  it seems this may be only partially true.  The source of the information came from a highly credible source.  After reading some of the comments, I thought about immediately taking down this post; however, it seems that many have called and registered their cells phones, so perhaps it is good advise to those interested.

I know that I have been getting increasingly more and more marketing calls the past couple of years. I actually would not mind the calls if most callers would let me get a word in telling them I am not interested in the product, that I am with a client, busy, etc. etc.  This does not happen in most cases and I end up feeling that I am being short or border line rude in trying to get off the phone.

The callers selling SEO seem to be the worst right now.  We tend to get numerous insurance calls too and the callers won't give up, they ask who we are currently with, what type of coverage we have, etc.  Telephone service callers are hard to get off the line also, wanting to know how much we now pay.

Anyway...I am glad I called to list my cell phone with the service and if cuts down the telemarketing calls partially, it is worth my effort.

I think it comes down to the professionalism of telemarketers.  Call, state your name/company, and give us a second to respond before jumping into the long hard sell!

The Big Take Away....Carefully Check Out Every Single Thing Before Posting!  Regardless of the Source!  Thanks and Happy Sunday!  Best Wishes for Lots & Lots of Client Calls Today!

As some posted, this is an urban legend.  Another thing we must remember is that the Do Not Call Registry does not apply to business-to-business calls, so if you are listing your cell phone as your business number it will not protect you from marketers!

Valerie - good reminder about not registering the cell if listed as a business.  My direct line is my business number and it forwards to my cell when I wish.  All the people I know, as well as many herfe in AR, do want to register and put a stop to the calls.  Enjoy the week!

Tim - you too?  I am starting to get junk texts also.  Hard to figure out how to stop this - or if it is even possible.  Thanks!
