Congressional Reform Act of 2011 - As It Should Be...Congressional Reform Act of 2011 - As It Should Be...

Of the 27 Amendments to the Constitution, seven took 1 year or less to become the law of the land... all because of public pressure. The 26th Amendment (granting 18 year-olds the right to vote) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple... 'We The People' demanded it. That was 1971... before computers, before e-mail and before cell phones.

Let's see what 'We The People' of The United States of America can do with this message...

Congressional Reform Act of 2011 - As It Should Be...

1.  Term Limits. Twelve years cumulative with one of the possible options below.

A. Two Six-year Senate terms

B. Six Two-year House terms

C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2.  No Tenure / No Pension.

Congress collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3.  Congress (past, present & future) will participate in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system and Congress participates with the American people.

4.  Congress will purchase their own retirement plan, just as 'We The People' do.

5.  Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.  Congressional pay increases will be based on the lower of CPI or 3%.

6.  Congress will lose their current health care system and must participate in the same health care system as 'We The People' do.

7.  Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on 'We The People.'

8.  All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12.

'Serving in Congress' is an honor, not a career.  Our Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, not cushy political careers.  Perhaps 'We The People' could affect real change by implementing the Congressional Reform Act of 2011 - As It Should Be... IMHO.

Melinda, I've never quite understood the duality of those who serve in public office and their constituents. Sign me up for the "Congressional Reform Act of 2011...ABSOLUTELY...as it should be!

Melinda--Ditto to each reform.   I plan to re-blog shortly.  Let's include Governors and State Legislators, too.  They have been talking a good game, but never want to include their benefit package in the mix.

Nice thought, but not gonna' happen. Now that the Supremes have allowed virtually unlimited corporate donations we will REALLY have the best Congress money can buy. Hope you enjoy it.

I'm with Jon #12, not going to happen. Congress views themselves above mere taxpayers.

Hi Melinda, I don't know how I missed this blog the other day - I think Tim Lorenz is right, your blog may have legs...and I just put on its running shoes by pushing the SUGGEST button.

The phrase is "Serving" in Congress, not ruling or nesting in Congress!
