Night Out to Support Canton MA's Problem Solving Teams
The regular readers of my blog probably know about Canton's Championship Problem Solving Teams. The good news is that Canton is sending at least two teams to the International Problem Solving competition in LaCrosse Wisconsin, possibly more. (The teams that won first place in the State competition get an automatic invitation. The second place state winners have to wait to see if they can go.)
Canton Public Schools is able to fund the cost of the team registrations as part of its budget, However, the traveling costs are beyond what can be funded by the schools, especially in these times of budgetary constraints. As a result, the cost to send the teams to the competition must be either paid for by the team families and/or must be raised through fundraising and donations. Since some families may not be able to bear the cost of sending their child on this trip, the teams do a fair amount of fundraising to help defray the cost.
On Saturday, April 16th, the Problem Solving Teams are holding a Night Out at the Ponkapoag Civic Center from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Cost of admission is $15.00. There will be food, raffles and a cash bar. In addition, music will be provided by two of Canton's favorite young bands - Grace Morrison and RSO & the Wolff Sisters. I have to say, the Wolff Sisters are quite talented; I have seen them perform before.
Canton MA is usually very supportive of its winning problem solving teams so hopefully this year will be no different. It should be a fun night out and what parent could not use a night out? If you can't attend, stay tuned for other fundraising events!
