NAR Dues Increase -- NAR Wants to Raise our Dues for Political SLUSH FUND

Have you been paying attention to what NAR wants to do?  There is a webinar today and quite a lot of activity to try to get us to go along with their plans. I made a post in 2008 regarding NAR and what I consider to be ethics violations.

I studied the power point presentation that explains what they want to do. In the past NAR has based its campaigning on very superficial real estate issues rather than citing the principles on which we should be making our decisions.

The real estate profession is made up of people who are fundamentally entrepreneurial. We are not a UNION and as a rule, do not want to be treated and exploited like one.

  • I do not know anyone in the real estate industry who has any interest in WEALTH REDISTRIBUTION.
  • Most of us in the real estate industry do not profit from Illegal Aliens invading our country and sponging off our system.
  • I know most of us will stand for real property rights and not just rhetoric.
  • I did not see anything in the Powerpoint slide show that would make me trust that the SLUSH FUND would support candidates who would STOP the rush to eliminate the homebuyer interest deduction.

We need to contact anyone who can vote on this issue and let them know how strongly we object to BEING TAXED TO SUPPORT CANDIDATES AND CAUSES IN WHICH WE DO NOT BELIEVE.

Actually I would be in favor of the concept if the operation of the fund were to TRULY REPRESENT THE INTEREST of the REAL ESTATE COMMUNITY, but I see no way the present NAR Administration will do that.

Jon, I recently read a blog on another site with many comments, and around 97% of the Realtors who responded were opposed to this move, but NAR seems to disregard us and just do what they want. Since they have most of the local MLs systems in their pocket, they know they can do whatever they want and most agents are stuck going along with them.

I would love to see a widely-used, non NAR-affliated, national MLS system come about and then see how much more the NAR would listen to its members without the threat of taking away our ability to list and market effectively in most places.

Raine, I visited with the head of our local MLS System and she said she had come from a gathering of other MLS leaders and they ALSO do not support what NAR is doing.

I have a list of the NAR Committee who will vote on the plan here in Arizona. Stay tuned if you are interested and I will make the list public.

Take my $40 and I'll spend 10X locally on PRObusiness PROless taxation candidate(s) like George Allen for US Senate....NAR sees its #s dwendling and BECAUSE of that it sees it's lack of lobbying/buying power dwendling.....

I am opposed to NAR copying the fed's redistribution policies. If 75% is to go back to the states, then just increase dues by $10. I have not talked to anyone strongly supporting this. I have talked to many who are strongly opposed.

My Designated Broker and Team Leader is eligible to vote on it. It does not sound like she is considering that she represents us.

I have a very connected REALTOR Friend who wants to start a Realtor's TEA Party.  If you are interested, I will use some of my resources to make that happen.

As a RPAC Trustee I can assure you and everyone in Active Rain that RPAC would never support a candidate who would not vote to protect MID.  If you and other don't think NAR and it's leaders have the best interest of our members and the public who do you think will protect them?  It's ok to have a real debate and difference but lets make sure we are telling the Truth!

Have to agree with the Fords. If you look at the history of NAR political investments, we are one of the most bipartisan PAC's in the country, as well as being one of the most effective. I hope you actually listened to the webinar instead of just telling others about it. And that you also know NAR is listening - finance committee has proposed a Plan B which will also be  discussed which is to put the $35 public awareness campaign on hiatus for 2 years and use those funds for advocacy rather than raising dues another $40. Housing is under attack in DC. If the Realtors aren't at the table, we will assuredly be on the menu.

If your NAR director/delegate isn't voting to represent you, then take it up with her - don't use it as an indictment of the NAR process.

John, it is really ironic that the you... being the arch-conservative that you are... are against this.  The irony comes in because of my fear of NAR contributing OUR money to candidates who support ultra-conservative ideas like those you espouse.

We are both against it, but for opposite reasons.
