We can already take a good South Lake Tahoe picture, but now we want to know how… and why!

The Lake Tahoe Real Estate Blog workstation

We shot the image at left a few days ago. It's me at the Lake Tahoe Real Estate Blog workstation. It's not a good photograph for numerous reasons, and the class we're taking in digital photography at Lake Tahoe Community College will teach us all of the reasons why.

The first thing we see that's wrong ins the flash bounce back off of the window behind me. The florescent lights you see, by the way, are there… well, it's a set really that we used yesterday to record on-camera video and audio recording for the Lake Tahoe Television station.

Yes, your Lake Tahoe Real Estate Blog has made it to TV. We have recently become the reporter for Real Estate Central there, and we'll do a separate post about all of that later.

Just for drill the computers that surround me, there's three of them, and five monitors; this is the workstation that runs the Lake Tahoe Real Estate Blog. The big mac to my right is where all of our video is done. We work in both Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro. The three monitors behind me are all off one PC, and this is where all of the blog work is done. plus much of the graphics we do in both Illustrator and PhotoShop. Off screen to the left is a laptop, which runs our seminars and is the principal entry point for all images entering our system. All of these machines talk to each other, files are easily networked and transferable, and there are some nine hard drives recording and backing everything up.

As for the photography class, it's a 3-hr lecture and a 3-hr lab each week until mid June. Our goal is to better understand how our digital cameras best work (they are Nikon D780's), what additional equipment we need to better serve, and how to understand image composition. All of this we suspect will help us with shooting video as well.
