Announcements: Jeannie Hankins reminded us that the Villa Park Community Picnic will be on May 22nd from 11AM- 5 PM at Irvine Lake Bob Kreisberg- Proposed a morning hike at Orange County's Grand Canyon on the 2nd or 3rd week in June- we would meet for a meeting and then those who want to take the hike can do a 2 mile hike- the meeting place is just beyond the entrance to Irvine Lake. Bob is also starting to form his speakers committee- the group meets quarterly at Rockwell's . Tom Grundy, George Poulos and Nagy Ibrahim volunteered to help. Start date is July. Wayne Silzel noted that we will be hearing lots of ideas on how to solve our local, state and national debt. He encouraged us to keep an open mind and not to "shoot" the messenger. Nagy Ibrahim talked about the Rotary Foundation and becoming a Paul Harris Fellow. It takes a donation of $1000 to become a fellow. Each quarter $30 of our dues goes toward this award. You can check your totals at the Rotary Foundation Website. Jill Kuli talked about a project from the YMCA of Orange County called Joanie's Purse Project. Members are encouraged to bring in gently used purses that will be given to women living in shelters. The purses will be filled with hygiene products, jewelry, granola bars, perfume and other items that can be donated as well. Jill will collect the items and bring them to the YMCA. Jane McDonald talked about the upcoming fall fundraiser. She is passing around a sign-up sheet and needs help with the live auction. She proposes that each person donating a live auction item should be on the committee. Pam Dunn needs to make sure that we have 10 people attending the Yorba LInda Sunrise Lobsterfest on May 13th in order to get the catered table. Please contact her if you want to attend cost is $150 per person.
Happy Bucks: Tom Grundy was happy that Ron Accornero brought in pictures of memo pads with his son on them. You had to be there to see the picture of Ron from days of yore. Jay Lieberman was happy to announce that his grand daughter will be attending architecture school at the University of Oregon. Millie Alexander was very happy to have witnessed Angel Mark Trumbo's 1st major league home-run. Mark is a 2004 graduate of Villa Park High. Bob Bell watched the Angels win and then went to watch the Ducks lose. He also attended a wheelchair basketball tournament in Denver to watch his grandson Rob play. Its a family affair and everyone has a great time. The jr team that Rob helps coach won by one point. Pete Moriarty says his grandson who plays baseball at Lutheran High hit the longest ball anyone can remember in a recent game. He will be attending University of Oregon next year. Jill Kuli couldn't help getting into the act by telling us that her grandson Jake won second place in the county science fair and will be going on to the state competition. Pam Dunn did the invocation at the Metropolitan Water District, had a nice ride on the Amtrac and got a tour of the facility. She highly recommends it as an excursion; easily accessible by train and right next to the Union Station in Los Angeles. Teri Brooks had a pleasant surprise on Saturday when her son purchased a gas lawn mower and cut the grass. Jeannie Hankins went to the Orange Rotary Casino night and had a great time along with some other Villa Park Rotarians. She also bought a condo in San Clemente and has had to rebuild it from the studs up.

Speaker: Doug Lyle MD Suspense Author
Dr Lyle is a practicing Cardiologist who spends a great deal of time telling other authors how to commit murder using poisons, allergic reactions and other nefarious means. He self educated him in forensics which he defined as looking at science through the prism of the law. Over the years he has fielded questions about a number of medical issues and compiled a book on the subject. He is the author of multiple books including: Forensics for Dummies, Stress Fracture and an upcoming suspense thriller Hot Lights, Cold Steel coming out in June. Dr Lyle spun lots of tales about books he's read, tv and Hollywood-style death and murder. If you're contemplating committing an untraceable literary murder Doug Lyle should be on your speed dial. I'm sure he would be a fascinating dinner companion.
