Thai Noodle & Rice is a little storefront Thai family diner that delivers fresh ingredients and cheap prices. How bad can that possibly be?
A friend and I had planned to go to another restaurant in East Dallas. When we got there, it was closed. So, we just started driving. Going west on Fitzhugh, I spotted the sign in a ragtag strip center and yelled "Stop The Car!" It sure didn't look like much but the sign said Thai so we pulled into the parking lot. We were the only people in the place. Conventional Restaurant Wisdom is that is never a good sign. We started to not stay. I am really glad we did.
The only staff person there waited on us and then went to the back and did the cooking. Her English was very limited. I asked her to recommend something, assuming that she would direct me to something that was good and easy on the cook. Under the circumstances, I thought it wise to be easy on the cook. She certainly did right by me. She suggested a pad Thai dish. She brought out the spring rolls after she brought us the entree (no doubt because she had to let the oil heat up) but by that point, I really didn't care because the entree had taken me to my Happy Place.
The entrees range between $8 and $10. They did not take credit cards which could have been a problem had we been short of cash. I got a carry-out menu to make it easier to write this review. Apparently the place has been included in D Magazine's annual list of 100 best. Just goes to show about how truly important it is to not judge a place on the way it looks.....
