Friday's Fotos - Avon Calling

By

The title of this blog post is probably dating me.  I don't  know if that term Avon Calling is even used anymore but it came to me as I was thinking of a title.

I think it stems back to the days when Avon products were sold door to door.  Does anyone remember the Fuller Brush Man?  These door knocking salespeople would make great REALTORS® today.

The Avon that I am referring to in this post is the Avon River.  The Avon flows through Stratford from one end to the other and mostly enjoyed in the downtown area where part of it is called Lake Victoria.

Homes located along the Avon are in high demand and demand high prices.  Stratford's Shakespeare Festival overlooks the river and thousands of tourists descend upon Stratford during Festival season.

This is a great spot to walk the dog or take the kids to feed the ducks.  Or just grab a bench and enjoy the view.

Hi Jenny, what a beautiful place for "Avon to be calling" :-)  My Mom always bought Avon, and as I recall, tried to dodge the Fuller Brush Man! LOL  Gorgeous photos!

Remind me to tell you the story about my Aunt and the Fuller Brush Man someday, Jenny.

Hi Jenny - When I saw the title, I wondered why Avon would be calling in Tavistock, then I had to zoom your photos to find the requisite benches and then I confirmed that the well known African Great Lake, Lake Victoria, is still in Uganda.  Of course, I also had to admire Lola looking at you taking a photo of her since she has not been having her required number of photos in the past few months, at least here on AR.

Nice scenes along the Avon, Jenny.  The rivers seem to be "enjoying" a little more water than usual in some areas of the nation.  Your picture of the two swans is captivating.

Good morning, Jenny. Beautiful photos. I remember the “Avon calling!” commercials, but don’t ever recall getting a visit from the Fuller Brush Man.

Jenny, I walked along there while visiting my cousin. She used to work for the Festival until she retired. Okay, yes, I remember Avon Calling and the Fuller Brush Man. There, I admitted it ... sigh ;).

Hi Melinda, I guess the Fuller Brush man was in Canada and the U.S.  I remember him selling some kind of Kool aid product and left little freebies.

Hi Pat, While I would love to say I went to the wedding, this is actually Stratford, Ontario lol.  Not the real deal. Don't think I'd want to go to England when it was that busy.

Hi Chris, every year they have a Swan parade in April.  The swans are walked to the river from their winter pens with a marching band leading the way.  You can look it up on Youtube.

OK Mary, you have me very curious about your aunt and the Fuller brush man lol.  Did he give her freebies too?

Peter and Linda, Yes, it's all very prim and proper lol.  Many of the actors rent homes in Stratford for the festival season.  Others live here year round.

Jenny, I don't know if he gave her freebies :-)  I should tell you the story someday - it just won't be funny if I write it! but the funny part is my crazy Aunt- not the poor Fuller Brush Man.
