METRO WEST BOSTON A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO LIVE!

Metro West is a desirable place to live for many different reasons.    Great schools and hospitals, lots of shopping and culture, it's proximity to Boston, public transportation, and terrific sports teams!  

But did you know about this?    

                        THE CHARLES RIVER

80 miles of unsurpassed beauty and uninterrupted nature practically in your back yard.  It twists and turns through 22 towns right into Boston.     There are many places to get on the river if you have a kayak or canoe.  

Yesterday, like most days, I couldn't wait to get out on the river.   Although I know it well, there is always something new to marvel at.

You can get on the river almost anywhere from Hopkinton to Boston.     It feels like a visit to NH or ME without spending the time or the gas to get there!

I headed down to Bridge St. in Dover intending to do one of my favorite paddles up through the Rocky Narrows and down to the bridge at 27.    It's early May and the buds are just starting out on the trees.   The river looks quiet, but as soon as I head out, I see different.    The birds seem to want to play, and their sounds are a beautiful accompaniment throughout the entire trip.   Two blue herons (an amazing sight) and some hawks looking for food follow me for some distance.  I spy a couple of  Canada geese, I think protecting their nest as they didn't want to let me know they were there.  Turtles not wanting to get out of the sun don't even leave their log as I pass on by.   The sounds and scenery are breathtaking!     The history of the river tugs your imagination at every bend.   Imagine King Philip's watchful eye from his overlook as you pass below.

For sure, Metro West is a beautiful place to live with the mountains and ocean within an easy drive.   This is just another beautiful place to experience.  I urge you to get out there!  

You can rent a kayak or canoe in Natick, Newton or Boston at the Boston Canoe and Kayak or you can head right down to the Millis/Medfield line on Route 109 at "the Charles Cafe" and rent one from Trish.    508-734-0052
