So, You Want to Shoot Video of Your Listings!

Yup, Realtors are making their way into having videos shot of their listings. With the success of YouTube, mySpace, Yahoo, Google, Yuwie, metacafe, and kazillion other sites for posting profiles, pictures, and videos.... why NOT catch up and post videos of your listings?

Ah, technology... the "How do I question." Well shooting videos could be the simple step. Most of us probably have shot those home (family) videos one time or another. The tougher part for most may be the "How do I get it from the movie camera to the internet?" Here's the nuts and bolts in summary:

  • Get a Digital Movie Camera. This makes it much easier to get the movie onto the Computer.
  • Download the movie onto the computer using "Firewire" or "USB" cable that came with the camera.
  • Next, edit the movie using Windows Movie Maker that came with most computers. (Practice using the simple program.) Or;
  • Purchase a Movie Editor. You'll need to research to see which ones are best for the buck and User Friendly for beginners. For starters, I suggest people use the Window's Movie Maker to start. It's very SIMPLE and a great way of learning feet first.
  • Edit the movie and save to your computer.
  • Now, you're ready to upload it onto one of those internet sites. (If you have your own website with virtually unlimited storage space and a lot of Bandwidth (amount of info size (kilobites) that can be transmitted from your site to viewers, then go for it and load it onto your own website. You'll have to have technical knowledge in how to do that.) My recommendation is to use one of the freebie sites because it doesn't cost us anything and we can upload 100 mb.

If you get serious about shooting videos, then perhaps you can provide the service to other Realtors as a side business. Of course, there's investment in the equipment to start. Digital video cams can range from perhaps $250 to proconsumer prices of $2,000 - $4,000. A decent one can be obtained at around $350 off of eBay. The video editor around $120 bucks for a decent beginner version.

Good luck!
