The Internet is a Fad...blogging doesn't work.

By
Real Estate Agent with Novella Real Estate

image from Google Blog Search on Denver real estate blogWhat is all the buzz about blogging?

It is a silly useless method of wasting time.  Realtors are currently taking up blogging on a daily basis. They sit in front of their computers when they should be out listing and selling houses.  They should be out knocking on cold doors and passing out key chains, calendars, refrigerator magnets and other useless trinkets with their photos on them.

Blogging?  What's the point?  People don't read blogs.  Buyers and sellers go directly to the grocery store to pick up a magazine when they want to buy or sell a house.  Realtors why are you not writing ads for magazines?

Blogging?  Jeeze, why would you want to blog when their are so many other fun things to do on a computer...like play solitaire?  Mind Sweep?  Or you can sit in the office all day and work on  your genealogy chart.

Blogging is just a fad.  Remember the 80's?  We used to have CB radios in our cars.  1040 big guy...what's your 20?

Do we talk like that anymore?  Of course not.  Blogging....bah humbug, it's a waste of perfectly good time.

Who wants to know the details of a neighborhood, what's to do or what it looks like?  Jeeze people can go drive around for crying out loud.  Why would they ever want to RESEARCH on real estate?  Bloggers write about the market, giving stats with pretty colored graphs.  Why waste your graphical talent on real estate graphs when you could be saving all the money by making your own Hallmark cards?

My Advice to Bloggers, wannabebloggers and lurkers...

Forgettabout it go do something else.  Blogging will never work.  The internet is just a fad.

I think I will spread a rumor on the interent that blogging about real estate is a fad and a waste of time.  Of course I will continue to do it.  i should probably consider dropping the blogging class that I teach.  But I am going to wait until after I teach the session in cancun this January. :)

Bill French made a great comment at our meeting in New Orleans that blogging may replace the shopfront websites and be a more personal vehicle to the customers we want to reach.  I had to explain 4 times this week what a blog was..nice article KK

I agree.  Blogging is unimportant, so much so that I'm being interviewed on Wednesday for the CRS Magazine about the subject.  I guess they're foolish too.

I sure hope the other agents in Wenatchee read your post and actually believe it!  They haven't discovered blogs yet and I hope they don't because I like my current Google rankings.  I currently dominate "Wenatchee real estate agent" in Google, thanks to my blogs and linking them with my primary website (TopPropertiesWenatchee).  But it's just a fad, so I'll have to find a new hobby soon...like in 37 years (when I'm dead).

LoL - I have a friend who visited me over the holiday week who lives out on Block Island and he stated the same thing. The internet is a fad - I cracked up laughing, but there are people who really believe it!!

From now on I am sticking to yellow pages ads exclusively for my marketing program.   Thanks for the heads up on this thing, KK.  I've never had an eye for fads.

I'll buy that...the Internet is a fad. After all, there are only hundreds of millions of users worldwide and growing daily, and a few million companies doing billions in on-line business annually. Didn't we just have Cyber Monday??

Since fads are usually replaced by other fads, I wonder what that will be?

The more my competetors resist these wonderful tools like blogging, the more customers will be finding me online and finding them overspending on a newspaper full page ad

I agree all of the other agents should get off the internet.  When they leave I will make the sacrifice and hold down the fort.

Okay, you talked me into it. I quit! Now let me buy a couple hundred dollars worth of stamps, again as much for some postcards, empty out a cabinet drawer for all the stacks of "undeliverable" returns, reactivate my dial-up connection, polish my gum soled 'doorknocking' shoes,  dust off my horse and ride!

ps...I liked your post!

Kristal,

Good points.  But why would anyone want to let it out they were a real estate Blogger.  Soon buyers and sellers of real estate will classify you as an expert on the markets and realize you know more than other agents because you have learned information from fellow bloggers.  Next thing they'll be calling you to set up appointments to buy and sell homes, then you won't have time to blog because you'll be busy depositing commissions at your bank.  This cannot blogging cannot be a good thing.

Guess this explains why I am the only one from Rhode Island that has actually blogged here...They all know what they are doing. Maybe I should stop.
