Say Goodbye to the Laptop...

Reblogger Wallace S. Gibson, CPM

I've got a Google Alert for the NEW Toshiba Regza ANDROID tablet - it debuts in Japan next month at around $730....I want to be "in the Cloud" ASAP.  I'm driving an Acer Android tablet and LOVE IT!  My LARGE screen EVO is my HotSpot when needed!

There was a time in my office when some agents envied me.  I had a laptop.  I could take my computer from home to office to home.

Well, that was then.  This is now.  The laptop has all but given the death sentence just as the home computer "station" has.  Now, it is the touch screen.  All hail the touch screen.

In just over a year. manufacturers are saying that the tablet will eclipse the sales of the laptop based on convenience alone.

Microsoft saw its largest dip in stock prices last month in two years based on declining software sales.  Why?  Because the tablet "cannibalized" the netbook.

Everyone wants the next "best" thing.  And, now everyone wants a touchscreen like we have on our phones.

In order for the tablet to surpass the laptop, won't it need to incorporate a word processing program at least?  Is the new product you are talking about making that leap?

Hi Wallace - How the heck are we to keep up with all these new products?

Have been using a tablet for a month and can't make the leap off of my laptop.  Simply too many applications that aren't web based yet, but agree that it's going to hurt PC usage and may be a matter of time.  Nice post.

I'm not a huge fan of touchscreens, I will still want my keyboard.  There are a lot of choices and I'm by far not educated on tablets.  Maybe you can hook a keyboard to it for ease?  Do they have processing software in them?  I need to go figure it out I guess this will be the newest and greatest thing for all.  Schools are talking about moving text books to electronic versions...... so many changes for all   Thanks for staying on top of everything

I too have a lot to learn before I can feel good about making a tablet purchase.  Definitely on my wish list though!

Thanks for the reblog, Wallace.  I must say, I am not quite ready for a touch screen myself!

I think the tablets are great to supplement the laptop or desktop but I still can't seem to get away from the full keyboard for typing.  Bigger fingers just don't work with any speed on the touchscreen keyboards.  Without full word processing and the keyboard solution for speed, I think total acceptance is still a bit in the future.
