St. Croix Vs Alaska.... Good to Be Presented with Opportunities

I recall some posts about Realtors leaving for other jobs and there were some comments: most were supportive and there was one or few that used phrases like "quitting." I was one of those who supported taking advantage of any opportunities that's best for an individual and his/her family! I'm a firm believer in Opportunities when they present itself. I prepare for contingencies. Having been in the corporate world, before becoming a full time Realtor, I know about the necessity for having back up plans. The corporate world is mean. A person is a number. No more companies that "Father Knows Best" worked for. (I use to watch that on syndication of some sort.) Real estate can be meaner as we are now seeing.

With market being tough and being a Contingency Plan minded guy, I reactivated my corporate resume. Within just several weeks technical recruiters presented me with job possibilities in St. Croix and today for Alaska. WOW, St. Croix! I got little intimidated about a move to St. Croix at first and about the position being a staff "specialist" seeing that I've held titles like a Director and Regional Mgr. before. Then I thought some more and got excited and reserved. Practicing environmental engineering and doing real estate in St. Croix. A 6 figure regular paycheck, plus $3 k per month in living expenses, and doing real estate (what I ENJOY doing greatly)... what a DREAM! My mind was dizzy and racing. Good thing I was controlled! Well, it turns out that perhaps being a single father and being over qualified may have done me in for that position. The recruiter started asking me questions about am I married, how many kids, what happens if the kids get sick who will watch them, etc. I thought some of those questions were BOGUS! Nevertheless, I went ahead and sent my resume directly to the company. I'll just have to wait and see and hope for the best. Then today, I got an email from another technical recruiter for a position in Alaska. Yes, Alaska. Beautiful yes, but... the first thought... COLD... COLD... Freaking FREEZING COLD. My body is acclamated to sub tropical weather living in N. Padre Island (10 years) and Baton Rouge (5 years with Exxon). Then, I started thinking... hmmm, beautiful Alaska, whale watching, Fly Fishing for Salmon and other big game fish. Also, six figure regular paycheck, car, bonus, etc. Hmmm, I could put on bunch of thermals. The recruiter stated in the email "it's cold." Hmmm, I wonder if I'll get excluded for that position because I've lost my NY thick blood? Well, I have to sell MORE houses because N. Padre Island is just too NICE of a place! Buyers and Sellers, where ever you are, keep me HERE!      To be continued....
