A Few Down Home Tips for Battling Skeeters, by Jennifer Prestwich- your Adams County, Belle Creek and Dunes Park REALTOR®

Although spring has loomed stormy and wet here in Adams County, the heat of summer will soon be upon us.  Our Belle Creek and Dunes Park lawns promise to be lush and green with all the rain!

The other thing that extra ring brings to Adams County?  Mosquitoes!    close up of mosquito

Back when I was a kid, we loaded on the Off- in aerosol cans, no less- and went out to play.  But times have changed, and nowadays, us parents are looking for something safer.

Try these ideas that I learned from my good friend Julie Ratinoff (the Organized Goddess) for some good, clean outdoor fun!

Insect Repellent

Put a few unwrapped bars of rosemary, lemongrass or cintronella soap on a picnic table and unwanted flying guests will quickly bug off.

Itch Reliever

Can't stop scratching because you forgot your bars of soap to leave out?  Rub the itch with a bar of oatmeal or aloe-infused soap to quell the urge.

See you at the park, neighbors!

Jennifer! what great ideas! I heard dryer sheets work too, but I haven't tried them! I have to go out and do some building in the yard, so I better do something about them skeeters!

Jennifer - thanks for your "hi tech" mossie control. In my youth we burned dried cow pats (probably not politically correct), later coils (probably same content flavored green) etc. I shall try your recommendations on the Utah versions of "skeeters".

Jennifer...you can't walk out of my house without being in the middle of a swarm of mosquitoes... they're awful!  I've been using one of those battery operated fan's that clip on your clothing. It seems to help some.

Peg- Dryer sheets?  Hmmm, never heard of that one, but it's worth a try!

Larry- Burned cow patties, huh?  I've never tried that one either.. but cow patties are pretty rare in my neighborhood!

Peggy- Happy to!  You gals are full of great ideas!

Kim- Ugh!  Been there before and it's miserable!  I had wondered if those fans work.  I can remember having essentially an "off BATH" as a kid!

Jennifer, I think I'll get some of that soap for my shower!  It sounds like a great smell.
