Special offer

Being prepared...

I find myself in the mode of preparing to submit an offer for a client tomorrow. Like anything else, this always comes down to my preparation, and ability to communicate my client's expectations effectively. This is the normal course of business that we all do with any offer we submit:

  • Confirm the client's intentions and develop a strategy to achieve those goals.
  • Do a fresh CMA to make sure the data is accurate (more and more important in today's market).
  • Notify the listing agent of the pending offer and set up a final property viewing.
  • Explain the process to the client(s) again to make sure they understand their obligations moving forward.
  • Finally, fill out the forms, get the signatures, get the pre-approval letter and submit the offer.

Granted there are many morre things to do, but you get the gist.

As I thought about the process though, I had to laugh at myself a little bit. It seems I have a few rituals, or superstitions if you will. If I do these things, I get my mind right, "feel" prepared and am ready to move forward. I never thought I would be that guy, but it really is no different that watching Nomar at the plate before each pitch. And yes, I am going to share a few (try not to laugh to hard):

  • Got to get a fresh haircut (whether I need one or not).
  • Make sure the lucky pants, shirt and shoes are ready for tomorrow.
  • Watch the getting your mind right scene from Cool Hand Luke.
  • And a couple more that are just for me to know.
Each piece of the process is important in being prepared, but most important is to not take myself too seriously. Trust me, with my little rituals, it is not hard to remember that one.
