How Dare You Purchase Cookies!

Do you ever have a customer service experience that just leaves you steaming?  Well, I have one every Sunday at the local Subway restaurant on Willow Ave in Cookeville.

Like most hard working Realtors, I hold open house on Sunday. I like to serve Subway cookies at my open houses.  So like clockwork, each Sunday I stop off at the Subway on Willow avenue in Cookeville to purchase cookies.

Also like clockwork, the employees give me all sorts of grief over it.

Two Sundays ago it was loudly announced that, "We are going to need to bake more cookies right now, because she is taking them all!"  There's at least 20 people in the restaurant, so you can imagine how welcome that made me feel.

Last Sunday another employee demanded to know, " Don't you come in here and buy cookies every Sunday?"   Yes.  "Well, you need to call a day ahead. You can't just come in and buy all the cookies".  Again, this is in front of the entire restaurant.

This Sunday I went somewhere else.

So, let me get this straight.  The reason you have cookies on display is to sell them, right?  Why does it matter who buys them? If I want to buy every single one, you should be ecstatic. That was the point of baking them in the first place.

The reason you have a job is because customers come into the restaurant and buy cookies and sandwiches.  Who are you to belittle ANY customer for spending hard earned dollars at your place of employment?

Maybe you'd prefer customers stopped coming in. After all, if it weren't for them you wouldn't have to work that pesky job.

Jerks. I would file a complaint with the manager and Subway headquarters.

I would have also bought them all, then came back 20 minutes later and bought the entire 2nd batch that they just finished baking.

Jeff,  I like the way you think.  Consider this blog post my version of filing a complaint.  :)

I agree with Jeff. Let the manager know the business they're losing over employee ineptness.

As a former Subway employee I'm appalled! It's a common thing for people to come in and buy tons of cookies it happened almost daily at both of the ones I worked at. I would joke around with the people that got 'em all but I never made them uncomfortable.
If you come in there every Sunday (& they realize that you do this, which they do) they should have the common sense to bake EXTRA cookies on Sunday. We used to bake extra, extra cookies on days there were sport games & stuff going on because it is expected that people come in to buy them.

I've actually considered working at Subway again, cause I miss being so busy and getting stuff done, but after checking out all the people that work at all the ones down here I've changed my mind!

But you should definitely call headquarters and tell them what has happened. They usually send you free coupons maybe you will get tons of free cookies! =)

Julie,

I would think it would be common sense to bake extras too. I really dread going there because the employees are so unfriendly.  I remember that the local subways used to hire really nice people, but not anymore.

Richard,

That is a rather clever idea with giving boxes of cookies. The way to a man's heart is supposed to be through his stomach, no?  Hmmmm.......

As a former subway worker, i just want to let you know that its common for them to act that way... you are in fact supposed to call big orders in ahead of time.  .  . if it was that big of a problem, why not tell the manager instead of posting about it on here??? lol some people

Just because bad customer service is common doesn't make it ok. I'm not bothering with the manager because I'm sure it wouldn't come as a gigantic news flash that the customer service is lousy.....as you say, "they always act that way". I am however, free to share my experience with anyone I like. In this case, that happens to be both my readership and the general public.
