I am trying at the moment to balance work with getting to a better place with exercise.  I have tryed in the past to hit the gym at the end of the work week.  I've tried getting up out of the easy chair at home and just walking around the neighborhood.  I've tried scheduling myself for mid day work outs at the gym.  I have tryed to schedule walks with friends, thinking company would help, but one or the other of us always seem to need to change plans.

So, my new plan, and it seems to be working so far is to just start earlier.  I am getting up an hour earlier and heading to the gym Monday-Friday.  I work with Dumbells and get a great workout with these free weights.  Starting with low weights (20lbs) I am working back, chest and legs Mon-Weds-Fri and including a 20 minute cardio on either the eliptical or the treadmill.  Tuesday and Thursday I just do cardio for 20-40 minutes.

The plan for this "Dumbell" to work out five days a week seems to be working so far, and I think that after I've done this consistently for about three weeks I may well be on the way to making this a great habit.  My fingers are crossed.

Any of you that have suggestions for me?  Love to hear from you!

Best, Colin

Something I like to do, is to hiking. I get up earlier and earlier, as it gets mighty hot here in Scottsdale AZ in the summer. I started out Jan 1 walking about a 4 mile loop, and today stepped up to a 4 mile up and back that is up a mountainside. Feels pretty good to not get tired doing that!

You are in OR, I'm thinking there are hilly streets near you, so you can check out the neighborhood while you walk -- keep your eyes open for a buying opportunity!

Great job, keep in shape! You might like my blog post about weight loss and identity, it is an NLP thing.
