Seriously?

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

This is a photo that's in our MLS of a basement room.  Seriously!

Seriously?

Okay, I'm going to give them a little leeway here, 'cause at least they're not calling this a bedroom in the MLS.  In fact, I think they're calling it either storage or "Recreation" room

But unless they're actually using this room as bedroom, it seems a bit weird, when showing this house, to find this lovely little bedroom setup in the basement complete with oriental rug, two dressers and white-on-white bed.

And to be clear, this isn't a "lower level" of a split level... it's a full-blown, below grade basement, as you can probably tell from the open ceiling to floor joists above.

If they're housing the mother-in-law, or a teen, home from college, and have no room in the three bedrooms upstairs, then I fully understand... but either way, it's just weird.

Hey, honey, can you bring up some ice cream
from the freezer when you come up?

Not to mention the appraisal issues this might raise for this property. Knowing this was somewhat "staged" this way as a bedroom would make me a little concerned in that regard as the lender. Let us know what happens with this one, Alan. Will be interested to see how it plays out ...

Gay - yep... it's so nice to fall asleep to the glow of the water heater's pilot light.

Gene - will do.

I help brokers build businesses they love.

I think you have daughters, so maybe you have higher standards. My son keeps bugging me to let him move down to a much yuckier basement than is shown here. He thinks a couple of 1000 sf of concrete floors and partially finished walls sounds like heaven. I keep telling him to wait until he can go to college and join a fraternity to enjoy slum-like living.

Leslie - oh, I agree... it's way nicer than the average "son" would have it.

Jason - there's more story there, than we need to know.

Kim & Kristine - private sanctuary sounds a little too lofty.

As a home stager I don't even know where to begin - it's like playing a game of circle the thing that doesn't belong! Although, I do love that ceiling - perfect for the decor!

Alan, Perhaps a very comfortable spot for a very pampered dog. It is nice and cool down there.

Peter - since the house isn't air conditioned, maybe it's the summer "getaway"?

Big bed.

Maybe it is a "rec" room. Just my dirty mind at work.
