Hold On... Let Me Grab My Wonder Woman Cape!

Maybe I'm Just Not Right For You... Realtor Ho!Hold On... Let Me Grab My Wonder Woman Cape!  It occurred to me some years ago, that not everyone is a good match.  Thus the reason marriages fail, business partners split and some clients do the 'Realtor Ho' thing.

Disengagement happens... The question is, are we savvy enough to take notice?  Sometimes it requires x-ray vision and a cape to see through people.  As salespeople, we often try to fit a square peg in a round hole without noticing that it just doesn't fit!  Wouldn't it be great if we recognized this upfront and saved some valuable resources from being wastefully expended?!

Case in point... I received a buyer referral from a mortgage broker friend.  After speaking with the buyer, I knew instantly that we weren't on the same page.  The buyer wanted me to show her homes in the $375K range, when she was only qualified up to $250K.  When I explained the elementary reasons why we shouldn't be looking at properties at $125K over what she could afford, she got annoyed with me (red lights flashing).  She said that any other Realtor would be willing to show her the homes she wanted to see.  At that moment, I made a crucial business decision and said... 'Perhaps I'm not the Realtor for you.'  She was peeved and marched back to the mortgage broker to complain.

Fast forward 1 year... The mortgage broker recently gave me an update and said not only did the buyer wear out Realtor #2, but she also announced to my colleague that she was going to use a different mortgage broker.  Hhhhhmmm... now we have a 'Realtor Ho' and a 'Mortgage Broker Ho!'  I don't know about you, but I make a practice of wearing my cape and using my x-ray vision to call em' the way I see em!'

Hold On... Let Me Grab My Wonder Woman Cape!

Realtor Ho, I love it. I've been "fired" before for the same thing. Once I was "fired" while I was in the Honolulu airport. She was mad that I was on vacation. Huh? I don't work with unreasonable people. Rule #1.

The trick is to find a balance and only work with people you like and respect. Being able to listen to the red flags is key. I do an extensive interview to see IF I want to work with the clients...but even then the match is not always right.

What you have done is make room for real buyer. Congrats on the feature.

Melinda,

Good decision. We recently did the same thing with a potential listing. When they are 'not a match,' you have to make the right business decision.

I do experience these clients occasionally.  This is the good part of having a partner.

I turn them over to my brother/partner.  He puts the compassionate in compassion.  He gets along with EVERYONE.

If he doesn't care for their position, we wish them well.  Joy

You obviously made the right decision with that buyer.  Time is important and working with buyers or sellers that are unrealistic or unreasonable wastes everyones time.

Realtor Ho thing - interesting way to put it!  At first I thought you meant Realtor Hop Thing and that you just missed the "P"  But then I saw the repeat of Realtor Ho and Mortage Broker Ho and I understood...so nice you didn't waste your time...it's tempitng, especially in higher price ranges, but in the end it's still a waste of time..
