This Year Seattle Pride Parade was viewed by 400,000 people of all shapes, sizes and colors. Rainbow flags, umbrellas, boas and Mardi gras beads were abundant. There were Grandmothers and small children celebrating the freedom we possess to be who we are. As one gentleman proclaimed as the parade kicked off "We love our children, just the way they are"

The Gay Pride flag flew proudly atop our Seattle landmark space needle. A feat achieved by raising $50,000. for charity by the gay community. The event was harmonious and joyful, and a good time was had by all!

Judi,

Parades like this are popping up all over. I haven't seen any in Dallas yet but it's good to know that diversity can be celebrated with maturity, kindness and equality. I love the statement that kicked off the parade, "we love our children just the way they are." I've not been in those shoes, but I applaud the parents who accept their children for who they are.

Nice post on localism and diversity Judi.

Hi Patricia~ I have gay relatives and friends. I love them for who they are, just as they love me for who I am...

The parade was a beautiful example of the freedom we are always striving to achieve in our great country.

Thank you for stopping by to comment!

Best regards,

Judi,

I am looking forward to the day when we can refer to people without labels.  Every person is so much more than a label, such as gay, straight, woman, African American, Hispanic, Asian, blah, blah, blah....I realize that we are still evolving to accept.  Thanks for bringing this up and sharing your wonderful viewpoint. A

I was there!!!  Loved it!  I never knew $50K needed to be raised in order for that beautiful flag to fly.  Love your hyper-local posts Judi!!

Judi, it's great that people can come together and celebrate who they are in such a joyful manner. Toronto's parade is next week and it's going to be a biggie too. I like the idea that $50,000 had to be raised so that the flag could be flown from the Space Needle, it's a bit like paying it forward.

Hi Kerrie~ The parade was a wonderful experience for me too! I loved seeing parents with young children, parents of grown children, and everyone in between celebrating individuality! I love "Living in Seattle" !
