A Comment Heard in Passing becomes a Random Act of Kindness . . Pay it Forward

I had caught a comment made by a friend of a friend about needing a chest of drawers for a bedroom. The person making the comment was an elderly woman that lived alone and was having a tough time. As I was assisting a client to empty a home as their family member was confined to a nursing home, I made a pitch for the chest of drawers that was going to charity.

I arranged for one of my nephews to help me move the chest. we picked it up, called the woman and told her we were coming over.

As we placed it in her bedroom, she was ecstatic. It fit perfectly, was obviously a very high quality piece of furniture and the colors matched.

We thought we were done, but not to be. Before we left, we rearranged her furniture moved a few more pieces of furniture, and dropped salt into her water softener.

As we were walking away from the house, she mentioned something about taking down some trees around the house, but we just let her know we weren't insured for that.

It took a couple of hours of our time, but it was well worth it for the smile on her face.

You will be blessed for your acts of charity. We must not forget our elderly. It is hard for them and sometimes they are too proud to ask for help. She may have friend who are selling their homes in the future so it may come back to you also. I am sure you didn't expect anything but I believe one good turn does come back to you eventually.

What a fine thing you and your nephew did for a senior in need and a great looking chest indeed if that is the one in the picture.

Now if you hear a comment in passing from a friend to a friend needing some firewood!  Don't mention you know where they can get some!

Joan: The trees were just too close to the house and very big. Thank you

Kristin: I didn't expect to gain anything more than a good feeling from this, but if the fates intervene and send me a few clients I will not be offended. Thanks for stopping.

Thank, Elle. I can only hope she treats me as well as you have

Sue, that is the chest. It was part of a very large bedroom set that had been sent off prior.

Laura, thank you, Hugs are always appreciated

Hey guys, I think I'm getting more sensitive to the elderly as I get closer to it. Taking along the nephew is another way of letting him know I don't want to be forgotten.

Ed- incredibly thoughtful of you to think of the lady when you heard about the dresser and even more thoughtful of you to take the time to rearrange her furniture! It's so easy to overlook the elderly but we, god willing, will all be in their same position one day and can only hope that nice people like you are there to come along.
