Booth duty at the Mullet Festival

Booth DutyI have never been one to run from booth duty.  I actually think that contact with the general public helps keep you attuned to customers.

Just about every business I been involved with has run the risk of listening to employees more than customers.  That's a quick way to loose customers.

There is nothing like a couple of hours of intense customer involvement to remedy that.

Today I spent a few hours at the Swansboro, NC Mullet Festival.  The event has nothing to with hair.  It's about the kind of mullet that swim in the sea.

The festival has been celebrated for the last 53 years and commemorates the completion of the bridges over the White Oak River.

People were very happy to get the bridges in those days.  Now we know that those particular bridges have altered the river forever.  I wrote about this in an article the History of the White Oak

Today we're hoping to keep the White Oak's repudiation as a special jewel of a blackwater river intact even with the challenges presented by the bridges.

The Mullet festival is great get together.  I posted a few slides of the event. It was very well attended, and even had a few people asking questions about real estate.

Given the market we are facing, most of the questions tended towards.  This agent has had my house on the market for a year, and it still hasn't sold.  Can you do any better.

It was a little challenging talking with beach music blaring in the background, but I did send a couple people away with a flyer called "Why me?"

In the brochure I try to describe why my approach is a little different.  I try very hard to give as much as exposure as possible to our area and the houses that I think will sell which includes my few listings.

My efforts involve a number of websites and web presences including photos and conservations on forums.  So far I have had some modest success in attracting new buyers.  If I can keep this going for a year, I think that I will have things moving in the right direction.

While working in a booth on a beautiful day isn't the most fun thing in the world, i do enjoy talking to people, and it is a good day to measure how effective some of your other efforts are.

I had a couple people come up to me and tell me they had read my article on the White Oak in the October Dropping Anchor so I was pleased with that. Some others commented on the postcards with area scenery that I send out as mailings so I think that I am making some progress.

In this market, you cannot afford to leave any stone unturned.
