Birthdays: Celia Poulos- Husband George wined and dined her with breakfast at Rockwell's and dinner at a Greek Restaurant Terry Applebaum- enjoyed dinner with Husband Jay and daughters Elysse and Dana at the Jazz Kitchen at Downtown Disney Kirk Parker and Mike Cornue also enjoyed recent birthdays.
Announcements: Outgoing President Greg Mills presented an award to Community Service Chair Jill Kuli and thanked her for her service to the club. Jeannie Hankins announced that she is having a 4th of July fireworks viewing party at her home in Annaheim Hills. Everyone is invited and encouraged to bring kids, friends, neighbors. Start time is 7:30; fireworks begin about 9 Jeannie sadly announced this is the last year she'll be hosting the event in Anaheim Hills, she is moving to a beach condo in South County. Nagy Ibraham talked about the importance of donating to the Rotary Foundation and achieving a Paul Harris Award- he applauded those members that have made special donations and everyone for contributing with their quarterly dues. Nagy is also going to be in charge of the Speakers Program this year and is looking for good speakers in the upcoming months. Weekly speakers can be seen on the website calender. Milt Stamos thanked Jeannie Hankins for her annual $1000 gift. Mark Schmidt has also been a very generous supported of Foundation over the years. Jill Kuli- Community Service Chair wanted to thank everyone for their hands-on efforts this year. She also said that we should be receiving some monies from the recent E-Waste event. Pete Moriarty announced that those members who have joined the International Fellowship of Yachting Rotarians will be having a "Change of Bridge" Ceremony on July 24th in Long Beach- the event begins at about 11AM and includes a cruise around Long Beach Harbor. Participants are asked to bring some food or drink to share. More to follow. Bob Meyer announced he will be our speaker on July 28th, his topic "Service with Pride". Because of his national and international celebrity he wants members to bring prospective members and to use this as a showcase for the club. For those new members who haven't heard Bob recall his service as a glider pilot in World War II make sure not to miss it. The glider pilots were among the many unsung heroes that made our invasion into Europe a great success.
Happy Bucks: Paul Hudson- was happy to be back, he's finally getting a product delivery on a project that has been in the works for the last 6 years. Sadly, he and wife Jane held a memorial service in their yard for a 7 year old boy from their neighborhood who died from heart faillure. He and Jane are also helping to care for Jane's father. Nagy Ibrahim- reported his grandson will turn 3 on the 4th of July. Mark Schmidt announced his son Jordan was admitted to the Annenberg School at USC and that his girlfriend was one of the top 12 participants in the Miss California Pageant. Greg Mills thanked Mark and Jan Schmidt for hosting the Demotion/Demolition Party last week. He also thanked those involved in the skit and Linda Bartrom for providing the lab glassware. Jeannie Hankins seconded the thanks. Jeannie is going through a lengthy condo remodel and is having her kitchen cabinets and appliances installed next week, god willing. Lesslie Giacobbi is also going through a major house remodeling and is happy with the way the back yard has turned out. Family is coming to visit from Italy next week to share the chaos. Lesslie and Peter recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and according to Lesslie they remain married despite the remodeling jinx. Bob Meyer claimed Lesslie is too young to be married for 50 years, to which Lesslie acknowledged her child bride status. Tom Grundy was happy to retire the "Official Rotary Song" with the coming of the Bryan "Eddie" Nash regime. Ron Accornero took some ribbing from last week's speaker Larry Dick for missing the meeting. Ron had hernia surgery as is doing very well. Bob Meyer needs some help packing up supplies to send overseas to the troops. CVS has given him 200-500LBs of merchandise. So anyone who wants to help come to Bob's home at 629 N. Adel on Saturday at 10 AM.
