Where are you going?

You can't get THERE unless you know where THERE is.

Sometimes we all get off track in our lives. Whether it is business related or not. We have the plans and goals but somehow forget where we were going.

I read a blog today a friend wrote about a woman he heard in a parking lot over the weekend. I guess her navigation system had erased all of her favorites & she did not know how she was going to get to her daughter’s soccer practice. She’d been there several times before but didn’t know how to get there without her turn-by-turn directions.

This is just like our life. Even if we create goals, we won’t be able to get there without a plan with actions to accomplish.

I’ve achieved goals before almost by accident so I don’t have the plan to do it again. But when you do things on purpose you can do them again. And again. And these things become easier each time.

Now that we are into the last quarter of 2007 don’t forget to plan out your 2008. Heck, while you are at it, plan out the next 5 & 10 years too.

You can always make adjustments but without the end goal & directions on how to get there, how can you possibly find your way?

Where is YOUR there?

I've got major plans to expand my business, this includes licensing in a second state, adding agents and a new marketing approach.  Despite the real estate slow down I want next year to be the best one yet!

Great post...I totally agree.  It's so easy to get side tracked on the "Daily Going's On's"

There are a lot of goal setting and planning gurus out there.  A personal favorite is Laura Stack.  Additionally, Roche Parryre is a great resource on long range business planning.  Your assesment of the importance of planning for 2008 is not understated as one still has enough time to plan on both tax and personal fronts to make it a great year.  'When people fail to plan, they plan to fail.'

Great post - sometimes we get so lost in the details that we forget to look up and see what direction we are heading in.
