Pump Me Up- Wenatchee and Chelan Home inspection

The best part of being a home inspection service is I get to play in crawlspaces. I mean, really who wouldn't want to go down there in the cool dark climate that a crawlspace provides.

I think crawlspaces get a bad rap. You get to see the most interesting things there. Creativity abounds.

Here is a perfect example. If this can hold up a multi-ton vehicle it surely can hold up this little piece of wood.

And this fine item... conditioning a space with natural fibers that will make you feel warm and fuzzy. Plus this one took a little carpentry skills.

Or is it that you are missing someone dear that you wonder where they went to.

OMG!  I certainly don't envy you for that...so many homes here are built on slabs, the worst thing they probably have to do is go into the attic in 115 degree weather.

Bonnie,

Yeah it can be an adventure at times. You just never know what you are going to find. I also get the 120 degree attics here, sometime it feels pretty good to be in the crawlspace, if they are nice.

Charlie,

That was one of the better preserved ones I have found. Poor cats, I see them fairly often in crawls. You would think of they figured their way in they would find a way out. They also may be being poisoned by laced rodents.

You are lucky Don, I hardly ever get to go into a crawl space. We have basement here in CT.

Jim,

You just do not know what you are missing. They are always the best part of the inspection.

I get crawlspaces about 10 % of the time. I couldn't get into yesterday's crawlspace but the camera got in there and did a decent job, even found the sump pump.

Robert,

Out here I see them on over 50% of the homes. They are always an adventure.

Per our state standards we are to go to each corner and evaluate each plumbing drop.

You can't go to each corner it you can't get in there. I have to note that as a limitation to the inspection.

Robert,

I totally understand. Been there many times.

My comment was not very clear, I was stating what our minimum is and anything less than that we have to write up as a limitation.

I see that this is an area where some of the inspectors take many short cuts or just call out that restrictive area and exempt much of the crawlspace.

Do you get much activity from termites and such in your area?

We don't have termites here at all as far. The only WDO we have is carpenter ants. For termites we sat 'so far' because global climate change means they are following the warmer weather. They are reported in Toronto now. Normally out winter freeze keeps them out.

Robert,

Well, You are lucky there. They are the most expensive pest to manage other than the Lyctid (true powder post beetle) infestation.
