Think of your real estate website like a home you're trying to sell. You're not going to sell the house from
the curb, but that's where your visitors will decide whether or not they're going to come in for a look.
And with your website, you have between 5 and 15 seconds to convince your visitors to stay and browse.
Once you've accomplished that, then you can take the time to show them all of the benefits that your
product or service can offer.

Tip 6: Give me an "S"! Give me an "E"! Give me an "O"! What's that spell? SEO!
Search engine optimization, or SEO, "is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a
web site from search engines via ‘natural' (‘organic' or ‘algorithmic') search results." That's Google
speak for increasing traffic to your website. When you optimize your site (including through the
appropriate use of titles, tags, and keywords) buyers and sellers searching the Internet for real estate
agents will be more likely to find you.

Tip 7: My brain hurts! Don't make users think too hard.
You have between 5 and 15 seconds to capture a web visitor's attention before they click away to the next
site on the list. If your real estate website layout and content make it difficult for the visitor to figure out
all of the great information your site has to offer, they'll click away in the blink of an eye.

Tip 8: Engage.
People love to be engaged. It's why those silly little "You are . . . if. . ." quizzes on Facebook are so
immensely popular. It's why busy people take time out of their days to respond to e-mail chain quizzes.
It's why I find bizarre happiness in filling out the Census survey. So to keep visitors on your site longer -
and to keep them coming back - engage. (We can help.)

Tip 9: It's all about who your website knows.
The algorithms that search engines use for ranking web pages are extremely complex (and top secret) but
links - both outbound links from your real estate site and inbound links to your site - are an important
factor. Blogging and social networking are effective ways to get inbound links for your site but linking
from your site to other sites is important too. (That's the reasoning behind our online outreach services.)

Tip 10: Test, test again. . . Is your website the best that it can be? How will you know? Understanding
where your real estate website visitors are coming from and how they're engaging with your site is
critical in knowing what you need to improve. Fortunately, one of the most robust measurement tools out
there - Google Analytics - is free.
