I watched both the Obama sell and the Boehner response.  I've been staying away from politics as a blogging forum, but was amazed at what I had heard.  I'm curious as to what others heard.  I really thought that what was said from both Obama as well as Boehner is that they both agreed that they have a working document in place for a plan to move forward.  Obama said no way.  Listening to the Dems later, they said that they indeed did have a working plan but felt that Obama wouldn't sign it.

We may downgrade our rating, but we won't default.  We'll still take in $200,000,000,000 a month in revenue, but now Tim Geitner will need to prioritize what will be paid when.

Is there a stalemate?

For me, I think it's Obama against both parties....but I'm really curious to hear from both side of the aisle on this one.

My take is that the Republicans are trying to make Obama look bad and going against everything he says, to make sure he doesn't get re-elected, it politics at its dirtiest.

With the elections coming up, both parties and are trying to make themselves look good and no one wants to agree. All I can say is that I am really worried about this nation's debt and hope we can stand strong and find a solution. I worry about our Medicare as we all go on it at 70 years no matter what other insurance we have. I worry about the teachers and the schools, the first time home buyers, the seniors, people losing their jobs and that continues to happen. Someone in charge needs to agree on something good for our country ... and very soon.

America is not a Dictatorship, it is a Constitutional Republic.  It is time for the United States Congress - both Republicans and Democrats - to stand up against this Megalomaniac.

Jose....we've seen it on both sides forever.  That much I'll give you!

Kristin.....we do need to drop programs.  We do need to cut the deficit.  This is so polarizing!

Fred....it's amazing that how many people feel this way.

I say that the whole stinking, corrupt, theft laden pile of shit needs to collapse, from which a Republic based on liberty and integrity can be rebirthed . . .

I could not believe what I heard. Obama said we needed the bail out money to give cities and help teachers and police keep their jobs, that is funny, I thought that money went to cash for clunkers, to bail out GM and Chrysler.

Obama wants to tax corporations, NEWS FLASH the corporations just raise their prices so the little guy ends up paying more anyway.  Obama wants to tax the rich more, They pay almost 70% now, Since when did it become a crime to make money, I remember when it was called "The American Dream."

The reckless spending has to stop. The government needs to learn to live within its means and REALLY LOOK at the definition of Entitlement. Most of the "Entitlements are gifts. Did you know we spent over $3,000,000 studying how alcohol effects college students only to find that if they are gambling they loose more drunk than sober? Vegas knew that 30 years ago.

Six years ago Obama argued against raising the debt limit and said there was no way he could support it if they increased taxes. Now he won't support it unless we raise taxes.

They canceled the Space program and said private industry can do it better. If that is true then why can private industry handle healthcare and postage better? How about education?

I am conservative and I will be the first to admit that Bush "W" really screwed up. If Joe Lieberman would have run against Bush he would have gotten my vote, But Obama did and I simply can not support the socialist machine any longer.

The rookie congressmen are doing exactly what they were elected to do. Stop the spending and get a hold of the monster budget.

I say make the cuts, shut down all the new programs that have been started in the last 2 years, we went without them for over 200 years, we don't need them now.

Cut out the pork and get the budget under control.

If you want to work on taxes, great, how about a flat tax where everybody pays the same according to what they spend.

I agree with Fred (scroll up). I don't think Obama represents the Democrats, and he surely does not represent the Republicans.

Saramanta....I couldn't agree with you more.  It needs to be based upon a republic....not a democracy that we've evolved into!

Scott....very good!  On point!

Don....the problem is that the dems aren't even backing him now.

All of a sudden we have money in reserves?  All I've been hearing from the "Right" side of the equation is that we are broke.  And the debt ceiling being a conversation piece on live television is quite interesting, considering I have to date myself back to Perot running for office to even hear a mention of it along the merry way.

And hey Scott, "Obama wants to tax corporations, NEWS FLASH the corporations just raise their prices so the little guy ends up paying more anyway."  Good point and one to rally behind when talking about all this stuff.   Personally, I support the concept of a Flat Tax.  I wonder if the Corporations feel the same?

The Tax Rate for the Rich (to my knowledge) is the lowest it has been for quite some time.

And Saraman is simply reiterating the Jim Morrison of it all:)

Jason....that's not my issue.   The issue that I have is that the Dems are in opposition with Obama.  Obama is now left of Harry Reid.  I don't know what you mean about reserves?  Who said anything about reserves?

D.C. is in chaos.

Both parties are more interested in scoring political points than solving problems.  The extremes in both parties have too much power.  The trite "talking points" cliches give me a headache.

We've gotten ourselves into such a deep hole we need to do both, cut spending and raise taxes.  Personally I favor the Simpson Bowles recommendations.  Even limiting MID.

Jason, I believe, is referring to the fact that $200,000,000,000 is coming every month and calling this reserves. It isn't reserves it is what the government takes every month from tax payers. And the this money comes in every month whether there is a budget or not Jason. The bills that "HAVE" to be paid:

  1. Interest expense
  2. Military salary
  3. SSI
  4. a few others, etc

These can be paid with this money. Cut out the grants, cut of the UN, cut of aid to foreign countries, and it isn't anything like it is being presented. Obama is using fear (standard political action) by only threatening to stop Medicaid, SSI and military pay.

If Obama and these others in Washington were true leaders, they would do something to fix the broken entitlement programs once and for all.  But Democrats know it buys them votes and Republicans are bitterly afraid.  Kind of sad.  As the car races at blazing speeds towards a cliff, everybody is arguing about the check engine light being on.

If Obama cared about our nation he would try to negotiate with the house but he has no interest in cutting spending just raising it. I say time is on the side of the House of Representatives.
