FIDDLER ON THE ROOF brings back happy memories for just about everyone and a lot of us have seen it more than once.   I missed a one-time performance on July 28 because I just didn’t know about it, but a friend who is a very proud mom sent me a message about it this morning.

The “junior” version that was at Barter Theatre in Abingdon on July 28 hit YouTube yesterday.   There were 79 viewings of Tevye’s “Traditions” opening when I first looked and an hour later there were 169.

Until I got Tammy’s notice about this, I didn’t know about Broadway Junior, which “adapts classic and contemporary musicals into 70-minute editions perfect for middle-school aged performers,”  according to the website of Music Theatre International.   This is a production of Barter Theatre's "Musical Theatre Intensive" 2011 summer camp, directed by David Alford.

Agents everywhere who are parents or who are involved in any way with young people might want to be sure your middle school knows about the Broadway Junior program of MTI

Brenna Williams - Fiddler on the Roof

I’ve been watching Brenna Williams grow from childhood to a lovely and sweet thirteen-year-old, a very talented actress/singer.   I’ve known her family for several years and I helped them last year get a house in Towne Acres that was perfect for a family “given to hospitality” They’re using it well.

This is the message that started all this:  “If you are interested ... and you have time to watch it at home, sitting in your easy chair  ...  here is the YOUTUBE VIDEO  (there are a bunch of links that let you jump into specific scenes) …

Here’s Barter Theatre’s announcement of this production:

Mary,

Thank you for your lovely and kind words concerning Brenna and our family and thank you for this great blog entry.  Just a little more detail about the production...

Barter Theatre has a three-week summer camp each year titled "Barter Theatre's Musical Theatre Intensive."  I'm not sure about the details of age range, etc. but this information can be found via the Young Audiences\Classes and Workshops link at the official Barter Theatre site.

Each year at the conclusion of the camp, the students present a "demo" production, limited costuming and sets, of the musical they have been studying.  This year's production, as Mary stated, was "Fiddler on the Rood, Jr."  Though the camp is offered under the theatrical 'wing' of the Barter Theatre, this year's camp and production were held at E.B. Stanley Middle School in Abingdon, VA.  David Alford, the theatrical director of the camp, and his entire staff, do a wonderful job of encouraging and directing the students to be the best they can be as evidenced by the video link Mary provided.

I think you will enjoy the video links, if you have a change to take a look at this talented group of young people.  Thanks go out to Ben Dawson, a.k.a Tevye #1, for taking the time to make this set of videos available.

Warm Regards,

Tammy

I enjoy doing things like this and am glad you have this chance to help spread the word about the camp and Brenna's activities.    Immediately after I posted this, I googled "Brenna Williams" Fiddler... and there it was!   Google is amazing and so is Active Rain.   Next time there's a play or a concert, let me know ahead and I'll be able to give some free publicity.

I recently did on Alison's lavender shop and on Cranberries Restaurant move.   It's quick and easy and a little extra help is always welcome.

Most folks who read my post just send emails.  Making comments is more fun because they're shared.
