Battle for Geist Tax Dollars Continues

By
Real Estate Agent with Red Door Real Estate

Well, the battle over the coveted Geist lakefront home’s tax dollars continues to unfold.  Recently Geist residents opposed to the forced annexation of Fishers filed a petition to incorporate into two new towns, East and West Geist.  They believe this will stop, inhibit, or at least slow down the process of annexation.

This past week the town of Fishers as a Hamilton county judge whether County Commissioners can create the two new Geist towns.  Fishers does not want that to happen and would rather annex the area first.  The town has offered the residents some concessions from tax breaks to financial help for water and sewer connections.

Both sides do make pretty strong cases, however in regards to real estate and values I have to side with the Geist residents.  Fishers real estate remains strong and would not be greatly affected either way.  However, if the Geist residents were to prevail I believe Geist real estate has much more to gain.  It would be a new exclusive community, and would garner more respect and higher prices.  In my opinion, people would be willing to pay more to say “I live in West Geist” versus “I live in Fishers”.

If you are considering a move to the Geist or the Fishers area,  you please feel free to access the Indianapolis MLS  and search for all Fishers homes for sale.

Michael,

Thank you for commenting on this situation.  I do believe that for whatever reason the "Geist" name would mean more to our property values than what we are now- which is basically nothing, or just a town named on our mailing addresses based on our nearest post office such as McCordsville and Fortville.  While there are obviously great neighborhoods in Fishers (Hamilton Proper, Quaker Ridge, etc.), I personally believe the "Geist" name would do more for property values than the "Fishers" name.  The fact that there are businesses that use the name "Geist" in their names (even if they are nowhere near the water) supports this theory.
