Remembrance of 9/11 in Manchester
Tomorrow is the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and terrorist hijackings of the commercial flights. People all over the country will be reliving memories of the attacks, the emotions, and the after-effects of the day, finding much of it still incomprehensible.
Manchester CT will be officially dedicating a steel beam from the World Trade Center that is part of the 9/11 memorial to the 343 firefighters who died in trying to rescue people from the doomed buildings. The beam was from the North Tower and weighs about 4800 pounds; it is not part of the Manchester CT Firefighters Memorial Garden at the Fire Station on Tolland Turnpike.
Here is a great video created by Meghan Moore which tells the story behind the steel beam and the Manchester CT Firefighters Memorial Garden:
In addition to the dedication of the steel beam, there will be a free organ and piano recital at 2:00 p.m. at Cheney Hall in Manchester CT. The recital is sponsored by Cheney Hall Foundation and Little Theater of Manchester; it is dedicated to those who were lost on 9/11. While the recital is free, they are accepting donations.
Everyone will be remembering 9/11 in their own way, but here in Manchester CT there will be an opportunity to come together, once again, around these tragic events and ensure that we never forget.
