Looking for a home for two families? Consider an in-law suite
Susan has brought up a good idea about building an in-law suite to your home for parents or older kinds that may need to return on a temp basis. I like this idea and thought it was worth sharing again.
As our parent's age, it's harder and harder with both husband and wife working to check in physically to see how our parents are doing. To create the best of both worlds and have peace of mind, some families are opting to either build an addition, or convert a garage into an in-law suite. An in-law suite will have a bath, a kitchen, a separate entrance and a bedroom so that the privacy and independence of both parties is retained. In other words, separate and self sufficient but within the same dwelling. I know nothing would make me happier than if I could have my mom just a few steps away for a cup of tea every day, a hug, and great conversation.
In-law suites are not just for aging parents but would work for grown kids that move back home due to divorce or lack of employment, college grads that need their own space, newlywed children saving for their own home, you name it. I saw an article that said a family used the in-law suite of a home they bought as a pool house, complete with bathroom for changing and a kitchen for making snacks and no one had to traipse their wet feet through the main house.
Why my interest in in-law suites? I have a fantastic listing that just happens to have a fantastic in-law suite at 1 Primrose Lane, West Chester, PA. This in-law suite is roomier and nicer than some first time buyer homes and it has the added benefit of being near the rest of the family. It would be wonderful for your aging parents or any two-family group that would like to live together but almost totally separate.
