San Dimas Rodeo and Western Days 2011

Okay, so coming up in the City of San Dimas, is the  44th annual WESTERN DAYS AND 17th annual SAN DIMAS RODEO!  This year the events will take place on October first and second.

If you've never been to downtown San Dimas, it's like something out of Gunsmoke or any of those old early westerns.  And it boasts intersting shops and businesses such as the old hardware store.  (I can remember going there when I was a little girl with my dad and buying a handful of nails out of a bin.)  And Roady's diner has been there literally forever (since before I was born and my kids say I dated dinosaurs, so it must be true!).

But I digress, again.  These events are joined by many local participants from the cities surrounding San Dimas, including but not limited to La Verne, San Dimas and Glendora.  Some of the events are, Little Miss San Dimas (a talent and personality contest for girls ages 6-9), a dog contest (best western costume, most exotic, etc.), and of course, the rodeo!  You can read about the city contests HERE and about the Rodeo HERE.

And for all of you buyers and sellers out there, Go Get 'Em, Cowboy!

Wish I could be there!  I love the rodeo, and your photos are great!  We are having Oktoberfest in my town this weekend.  Guess I'll be going German instead of Western.  Have a great weekend!

Susi, sounds like a lot of fun.  We won't be starting Oktoberfest until October (LOL), but I guess it's because we are already so busy!  Have fun at your event(s).

Linda, now this looks like fun, fun, fun! I have an ex brother in law that is Texas Bull Riding Champion many years running named Denny Flynn. ( funny note: sister in law is named Lynn...get it? Lynn Flynn?) It's a wonder they don't break their necks! Being from Huntsville Texas, the Texas Prison Rodeo is one of the events I use to look forward to each and every year. It was a hoot watching all those striped prisoners chasing pigs in the huge arena. They stopped that some time back and it's a shame. I think even the prisoners looked forward to it. I miss my rodeo. This one looks fabulous!

Deb:  I love the rodeo, and I've even been to one in BC Canada. This one is held so close to my house that we can hear the announcers and crowd every year.  It's kind of fun.  (Oh ya, and Lynn Flynn,  HAH!)

That is cool to blog about event like this. We have our rodeo here in Dallas too and in Fort Worth. They are fun.

Hi Mike - thanks for stopping by.  I read your wife's blogs all the time, but have never 'met' you.  Nice to meet you and I hope you have a great evening!

Linda:

Rodeos are a lot of fun.  San Dimas downtown is so charming looking.  It does look like the city in Gunsmoke.

Linda, that looks like a blast.  That's one aspect of Americana that we miss on the east side of the country.  Have fun!

Are those your photos, Linda? Those are pretty spectacular. My transaction coordinator's husband does roping, which I think means he rides a horse and tries to throw a rope around the neck of a calf. You can see I don't know much about rodeos.

Linda, We have a rodeo in Zimmerman in the early summer, but yours looks like it would be a lot more professional and interesting.  Have fun!
