Keeping in touch with past clients is one of the best ways to generate referrals and get new business. Earlier this year, I sent a flyer to my past clients offering to mow the grass for them for a month, if they would send me a referral resulting in a closing.
I got lots of phone calls and emails from the people I sent the flyers to – and everyone got a good laugh at the mental picture of me mowing their yards for them. While the flyer hasn’t resulted in any closings so far, it did give me the opportunity to stay in touch…in a humorous way.
Now, if the truth be known, I really have no intention of doing the mowing myself. But I have a great lawn crew that I would gladly pay to mow the lawn of any past client who sends me a referral resulting in a closing!
The flyer could be adapted to offer other services as a thank-you gift for a referral. Some suggestions might be:
-
Clean your house
-
Shovel snow
-
Rake leaves
-
Wash your car
-
Walk your dog
You can probably think of lots of other ideas that would work. But the important thing to remember is that keeping in touch with past clients is good business practice…so why not do it with a sense of humor!
