Google Page Rank Finally Updated - What's your blog's PR?

By
Real Estate Agent with nwRealty.Com

After six months Google has finally released the update of its "Page Rank (PR)" data.  This is but one factor used to determine your website's position in search engine results.  Since starting this blog in July of this year I've monitored numerous indicators of direct value to our Washington real estate website.  I view this release of PR data more as a report card of how my blog building efforts have progressed.

Google PR is rated on a scale of 0 - 10 with 0 indicating very little value and 10 indicating the highest (only the big mega sites get above PR7).  Here's how our PR report looks ...

  • This blog has a PR2
  • My profile page has a PR3
  • Debi's profile page has a PR2
  • Debi's blog still shows "no rank available" which is not the same as PR0
  • AR's main page is PR5

You can use the tool at this link to find the Google PR value for any web page ... just enter the URL for your Blog, Profile page or website.  For the community ... Please leave a comment with your blog's PR and how long you've been blogging.

Check this out,  something similar with google webmaster tools, https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

show the highest ranked pages and gives you a distribution of high/medium/low ranked pages on your site.

And it gives you a list of top searches and clicks for your website.

My site and blog got a 3. Page rank is somthing that is just there you cant really worry about it.

Larry, thanks for the great SEO measurement site. I had a PR2. I wonder what it takes to get to 3 or 4 other than time, new content, traffic, or link exchanges?

Hello Larry,

My AR account opened in April, 2007, and I started posting in late May.  Profile Page = 3; Blog = n/a.

My main website has been on-line since late January 2007.  Prior to the Google update, the "/" PR = 1; HOWEVER; the "/index.asp" (which should be the same page!) had a PR = 2!  Now, post PR update, the numbers are reversed, with "/" = 2 and "/index.asp" = 1.  Did Google have a "tentative" update hiding in the "/index.asp" page or, is there some other reason they have two values for essentially the same page?

John

Larry,

Great tool! My website only has a PR1, but my AR page has a PR2. What does it take to get a PR3?

Many thanks to everyone for all of your great comments.  I've taken a blog break for the last week and just now tending to some things.

There is considerable disagreement as to the value of Google PR for any web page.  I think that most folks considering themselves "authorities" will agree that it is 1) a good indication of your link building success and 2) a good tool to compare your efforts with those of your competition.

Link building is only one factor in search engine marketing and (by itself) will not get you in the top ranked positions.  But, it is a very very important factor that cannot be ignored.

Any idea why my profile page was granted a PR and my blog page didn't?  Seems funny to me.

I JUST started on active rain and for some crazy reason I have a PR of 5...however, my blogs are a big fat ZERO and my website and website blog are a measly 2.  That makes no sense to me at all.  Especially since my website and website blog have been around much longer then my active rain profile....what gives?

I have a PR of 4 for my profile but nothing for my blog. Guess I don't have enough PR votes pointing to my blog?

Thanks everyone for all your comments!  It appears that Google started another "dance".  We've been monitoring the number of indexed pages and backlinks very closely since late April and thing still don't seem to have settled down.

John in Vancouver -

That is a great question. Internal links are extremely important and you want to make sure that all of your website navigation points to the same page. I always advise to point to / (root) not index.html. Consistency is key because you do not want to share the "value" of your homepage with tweo URLs. Stick with one and you will be fine.

That comment to John in Vancouver is good. I noticed Google analytics has two URL's for my home page. I had not considered the impact.

Also like your initial point about the difference between PR 0 and not ranked. Could you expound on that some, if you have time?
